Background Screening & Identification

As part of the employment process, your fingerprints will be submitted for screening through local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. In accordance with Florida Statute 943.059, any sealed or expunged records must be disclosed to the School Board of Broward County. Employment with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is considered temporary and probationary until fingerprint results are successfully processed.

Ensuring the safety of students across Broward County Public Schools is a top priority. In compliance with Florida law, all applicants for employment or re-employment must undergo a criminal background check to determine eligibility for hire.

An applicant’s criminal history includes, but is not limited to, any of the following, regardless of age or outcome: posting bail; participation in pre-trial diversion, pre-trial intervention, teen or drug court, juvenile diversion or commitment programs; adjudication withheld; conviction or finding of guilt; probation; pleas of guilty or no contest; incarceration; or court appearances. This includes offenses handled in military courts, and those involving sealed or expunged records, all of which must be disclosed.

For the purposes of BCPS hiring procedures, a conviction is defined as a finding of guilt or delinquency, a plea of guilty or nolo contendere (no contest), or participation in a pre-trial intervention or detention program, whether or not there was a formal adjudication, or the case was sealed or expunged.

Individuals are ineligible for employment with Broward County Public Schools if they have been convicted of:

  • Felonies listed under Florida Statute 1012.315

  • Misdemeanors listed under Florida Statute 1012.315

Failure to disclose accurate and complete information, regardless of any previous information received from an attorney, a judge, or any third party will be considered falsification and is a cause for dismissal from employment or consideration for employment.
