Take your students on an inspiring journey through history, culture, and art with a free educational field trip to the African American Research Library and Cultural Center (AARLCC) — a one-of-a-kind experience in Broward County!

Since opening its doors in 2002, AARLCC has served as a national treasure, dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history, culture, and heritage of people of the African diaspora. This 60,000-square-foot cultural landmark was designed with inspiration from Ghana’s architecture, business districts, and historic West African castles — bringing powerful stories and legacies to life.

Rotating Exhibits in a 5,000 sq. ft. art gallery

  Explore the Ashley Bryan Art Collection, showcasing original illustrations by renowned African American children’s book artists.

• The Harambee Room
  View artwork that honors the Civil Rights Movement, the Black National Anthem, and local African American trailblazers.

• Outdoor & Sculptural Installations
  Students will engage with powerful works such as:
  🔸 Verdite stone busts by Zimbabwean artists
  🔸 A tribute to the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma
  🔸 A colorful installation reflecting West African traditions, including Kente cloth patterns, linguist staffs, and ornamental hairpins — a celebration of the surrounding Sistrunk community

• Adinkra Symbols from Ghana
  Found throughout the center, these symbols communicate African values, wisdom, and heritage, deepening students' understanding of African culture.
