Special Programs & School Choice

For families seeking placement in specialized programs:

The Office of School Choice works closely with the District’s Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Department to support students in accessing programs that best meet their needs. For students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) who require specialized programs, a dedicated review and lottery process is conducted to ensure a fair and equitable experience. Each student’s IEP is carefully reviewed to confirm that the requested school can provide the services and supports outlined in the plan. This process may take additional time, as our priority is to ensure students are placed in settings where their needs can be fully supported. If a student’s initial choice cannot be accommodated, the ESE Department will work with families to identify alternative schools where appropriate program seats are available.

For more information regarding special programming options for your child, we encourage current BCPS parents to contact the ESE Specialist at their current school for general guidance. Non-BCPS families needing an updated IEP should contact their home boundary school for information on how to initiate the process.

For all other questions regarding programming needs, locations, etc., please contact the District's Exceptional Student Education department at 754-321-3400 or click here to submit a communication form.
