The Human Relations Committee (HRC) program, which was created on the heels of the incident at Columbine High School has been successfully implemented at many of the district’s middle and high schools since 1999 to bring awareness to the importance of visibity & student voice. The committee supports the work of the District as it pertains to our policies related to nondiscrimination and works to establish Broward County Public Schools as a model to promote mutual respect, positive human relations, and community building among groups through education, prevention, awareness, and partnerships.

The Human Relations Committee (HRC) provides an avenue for celebrating humanity, student dialog and dealing with emerging educational and social issues through their support and collaboration with school board members and student led Human Relations Councils. Student led Human Relations Councils act as a vehicle for prevention and student engagement with a focus on reducing violence, cultivating community relations, engaging in anti-bullying practices, and creating a positive school culture for the all student populations served by Broward County Public Schools.
