Great Exploration in Mathematics (GEM)

The Great Explorations in Mathematics (GEM) program is designed to accelerate students by two years in mathematics. While many students are skilled at applying rules to routine problems, GEM challenges students to go beyond procedural thinking. Participants are encouraged to explore complex, non-routine problems, think deeply, and uncover the beauty, structure, and real-world applications of the mathematics they are learning.

GEM Course Progression

Accelerated Math Program

The Accelerated Math Program is designed to fast-track students by one year in mathematics. Over the course of two years, students will complete the content standards for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math, preparing them for Algebra I Honors in 8th grade. This rigorous pathway is ideal for students who demonstrate strong mathematical aptitude and are ready for a faster pace.

Upon completion of Algebra I Honors, the End-of-Course (EOC) Exam will count as 30% of the student’s final course grade.

Accelerated Math Course Progression:

  • 6th Grade: Course 1 Accelerated

  • 7th Grade: Course 2 Accelerated

  • 8th Grade: Algebra I Honors
