2023/24 Community Boundary Proposal 2, Analysis and Community Input

Disclaimer: The following school boundary proposals have been submitted by community members for the 2023/24 school year. These proposals were not created by District staff and they solely reflect the ideas and opinions of the community members who proposed them. Although these community members have worked with District staff to gather data and ensure that the posted proposals meet the mandated criteria of Class Size and School Concurrency Level of Service, these proposals may or may not meet additional considerations for establishing school boundaries, align with School Board Policy 5000, or be in the best interest of the communities, students and schools impacted. All proposals, inclusive of community comments, will be presented to and discussed by the School Board for consideration.

Considerations Reviewed

Class Size Impact No adverse impact.
Level of Service Impact Is projected to enable  Marjory Stoneman Douglas to meet the LOS target by the end of the phase-in.
Enrollment Impact No adverse impact: moves 287 students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High to Coral Glades High, which will have sufficient space if future reassignment awards are reduced.
Diversity Impact

Does not change the overall percentage of population of any demographic subgroup beyond +/-5% within the total school population of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High or Coral Glades High. (See diversity data below)

(See diversity data below.)

Feeder Pattern Impact Splits the elementary to high school feeder pattern: Country Hills Elementary currently feeds 100% to Coral Springs Middle and then to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High; proposal would feed to both Marjory Stoneman Douglas High and Coral Glades High.
School Proximity Impact

8  students in TAZ 107 live within the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High two-mile walk boundary and will need bus transportation. All students who live in TAZ 107 would travel further to attend Coral Glades High. Students in TAZ 112 and 653 do not live within 2 miles walking distance to any high schools; reduces travel distance.

CONSIDERATION RE-WRITTEN 10/25/2022

Neighborhood Integrity Impact

Does not split neighborhoods. Divides neighborhoods in TAZ 107.

Revised 10/12/2022

Natural Barrier Impact No concerns.
