Home School Education

Submit a Notice of Intent (PDF) to establish a home education program. If applicable, unenroll your child from school prior to sending in the Notice of Intent. 

The Notice of intent can be sent in electronically to home.education@browardschools.com. You will receive an automated response when it is received and a personalized confirmation response once your request has been processed. If you do not receive an automated response, please contact our office.

NOTE: Personalized Education Plan (PEP) students are NOT permitted to be enrolled with the district home education office, per the Florida Department of Education.

The parent/guardian enrolling a student in a Home Education Program must:

1. Provide an  Annual Evaluation (PDF) for each student, no later than each anniversary of his/her date of registration with the Home School Education program or upon termination, whichever date occurs first.
2. Preserve each student’s portfolio for two years and make it available for inspection by the Superintendent’s designee, with a written notice.
3. Maintain a portfolio of records and materials including a daily log of educational activities (title/author of reading materials) and samples of student work products (e.g., worksheets, writing samples) for all subjects.
4. Annual evaluations can be emailed to our office at home.education@browardschools.com.

For your convenience, below is a list of evaluators that have indicated their interest in completing annual evaluations for Broward Home Education Students.  If you are an evaluator and would like to be on this list, please provide a copy of your Florida Teaching Certificate to our office. 

List of Home Education Evaluators

Per State Statute, 1002.41, annual evaluations shall comply with one of the following 5 options:

1. A Florida certified teacher (valid regular teaching certificate) chosen by the parent/guardian shall evaluate the child’s educational progress based on a review of the portfolio and discussion with the student;  OR
2. The student shall take a nationally-normed achievement test administered by a certified teacher;  OR
3. The student may take a state student assessment test used by the school district and administered by a certified teacher, at a location and under testing conditions approved by the school district.  OR
4. The student shall be evaluated by an individual holding a valid, active license pursuant to the provisions of s. 490.003(7) or (8);  OR
5. The student shall be evaluated with any other valid measurement tool mutually agreed upon by the school district and the student’s parent

If your child is working in FLVS FLEX, you may send in the FLVS transcript for review as long as the student completed a total of 4 courses (segment 1 and 2 for each course) during the evaluation period. 

Our office does NOT process testing requests for PEP Scholarship Recipients. Please contact the District Assessment Office at 754-321-2500 for more information.

NOTE: Home-schooled students in Florida are not required to take any standardized tests, per State Statute. An EOC is NOT required to earn the final grade if the entire course was completed as a home-schooled student, even if the student returns to a traditional school.  

1) Spring 2026 testing for non-BCPS students has concluded. The next registration window for non-BCPS students to take standardized assessments will be for Winter testing. Registration will occur in the Fall. Please check back at that time to register for Winter testing as registration is required to participate.

2) Registration for Spring 2026 AP exams is now closed. Registration for Spring 2027 AP exams will open in October of 2026.

1) Broward College 

• Broward College now has an electronic application.  Please visit their website to submit the dual enrollment form.  Be sure to click on the Home Education tab. 
• Broward College has set up an email for questions. The email is dual@broward.edu.

2) Florida Atlantic University

• FAU Dual Enrollment registration (external Link )
• Submit the Non-Public School Form (Only submit Statement of Legal Compliance to the Home Education Office)

3) Broward Technical Colleges

• Contact them directly at 754-287-1716

To participate, complete an application and submit directly to Bright Futures (external link).  There are time sensitive deadlines to follow.  An account must be created by the parent.

Community service hours should be submitted to the Home Education Office on the service provider's letterhead ALL at once during senior year after the Bright Futures account has been created.

• Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) requires 100 hours.
• Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) requires 75 hours.

MUSIC

• Music Form: Verification for Home Education (external link)
• Complete Section A, and send this form to the home education office.

SPORTS

• Home Education Registration Verification "EL7" form (external link) 
• Complete Section A, and send this form to the home education office.

EXTRACURRICULAR.

• Extracurricular HSV Form
• Complete Section A, and send this form to the home education office.

The deadline to apply for extracurricular activities that require a class for the current school year is October 1st. 

• A Notice of Termination (PDF) is required within 30 days of completion or termination of a home education program.  As of July 1, 2018, Florida Statute requires that you submit an annual evaluation with the notice of termination.
• Students who complete their high school requirements as home schoolers in Florida, receive an Affidavit of Completion that is generated by the parent.
• Students transferring from one county to another may complete the Transfer of Home Education Program form and send it to both counties to keep the annual evaluation date the same.
