Are you teaching, but don't have an Education Degree? We can help!

Florida educators must be certified to teach in our public schools.  If you hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited or approved institution and are currently working as a classroom teacher, you can pursue an alternative certification pathway to earn your professional teaching certificate. Certificate Pathways

The Teacher Professional Learning and Growth (TPLG) Department has two alternative certification pathways for teachers with a Bachelor’s Degree and a three-year, state-approved Temporary Teaching Certificate. The first one, Alternative Certification for Educators (ACE), is our District’s state-approved Florida Professional Development Certification Program (PDCP). The ACE program is a two-year cohesive competency-based, on-the-job training in the professional education competencies (Florida Educator Accomplished Practices) that prepares high-quality classroom teachers. This teacher preparation program is authorized by Section 1012.56(8), F.S. It serves Pre-kindergarten through grade 12 classroom teachers who hold a state-approved Temporary Teaching Certificate and complete professional preparation training in education to meet the requirements for a Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate.

TPLG also offers the Broward Educator Certification (BEC) Program. BEC is provided in partnership with Broward College and Florida Atlantic University. BEC offers newly hired teachers with a valid state-approved Temporary Teaching Certificate the opportunity to meet the education semester hours needed for a Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate by attending online college courses.

Ultimately, the combination of career skills, education, and experience will contribute to your success in the classroom. Whether you participate in ACE or BEC, you must pass the Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCE) for either program.
