Advisories and Committees

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) advisories and committees consult schools, departments and the School Board on a variety of issues. The members, who represent the District’s stakeholders, contribute invaluable services to BCPS by serving as subject matter experts in their respective advisories or committees.

District's Advisories and Committees Groups

Audit Committee

The Audit Committee assists and advises the School Board and the Superintendent in matters pertaining to the fiscal management of the school system. The committee is empowered to investigate any financial matters that it considers of concern. The committee can also be requested by the Board or the Superintendent to investigate and report on other financial matters. District Advisory Council

The District Advisory Council (DAC) fosters and promotes communication among School Advisory Forums, School Advisory Councils, Area Advisory Councils, the District Advisory Council, the Superintendent of Broward County Schools, and the Broward County School Board. The DAC acts as a forum for Area Advisory Councils and others to propose recommendations and discuss issues that are relevant to the District. Diversity Committee

The Diversity Committee makes recommendations to the Superintendent and the School Board to promote diversity while maintaining a unitary school system. The committee currently consists of 31 members, 27 of whom are appointed by the School Board. The Student Advisor to the School Board of Broward County, or his/her designee, serves on the committee, representing his/her geographic area, and appoints three student committee members representing the other three geographic areas. Exceptional Student Educational Advisory Council

The Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Advisory Council is a parent-led volunteer body that fosters advocacy for students with disabilities and provides recommendations to the School Board and Superintendent on systemic issues relating to exceptional student education. Monthly general meetings provide a forum for connecting parents with information and advice, along with its four subcommittees on Autism, Down syndrome, Dyslexia and Specific Learning Disabilities, and Emotional & Behavioral Disabilities. Facilities Task Force Advisory Committee

The Facilities Task Force provides a forum for community participation in the planning, construction, maintenance, and monitoring processes of the Broward County school facilities and makes recommendations to The School Board of Broward County, Florida, that will promote excellence in Broward County school facilities. The Facilities Task Force reviews individual school needs assessments and recommends priorities to the School Board for the District Facilities Work Program/Capital Budget as well as provides input to the District’s Educational Specifications Committee. The Facilities Task Force advises the School Board on specific observations, potential problems, and successes relative to the maintenance of facilities, new construction, and renovation and remodeling projects. Green Advisory Committee

The Green Advisory Committee, as outlined in School Board Policy 4210 shall promote environmental stewardship by supporting environmental education and conservation as an economic, environmental, and social priority to be taught, practiced, and implemented districtwide. Human Relations Commitee

The Human Relations Committee serves as the foremost resource on human relations at BCPS. The committee makes recommendations to the Superintendent and the School Board on matters that foster mutual respect and understanding among people within BCPS. Parent and Community Involvement Task Force

The Parent/Community Involvement Task Force energizes and increases parent and community involvement in the District. Additional goals include reviewing current parent/community involvement models to identify gaps and deficiencies; revising parent/community involvement models to address identified opportunities; and provide identifiable ways and processes for the community to have meaningful input and participation in Broward County’s public education system. Small Business Advisory Committee

The Small Business Advisory Committee is appointed by the School Board as an advisory group to review the continuing programs for contractors, prime contractors and subcontractors that promote S/M/WBE participation; coordinate activities and actions with the School Board or corresponding committees designated by the School Board or Superintendent; and make recommendations concerning modifications of such programs and procedures established in policy. Technology Advisory Committee

The Technology Advisory Committee (TAC) is established in School Board Policy 5306.1.

Purpose

Provide strategic input, advice, assistance and recommendations in the procurement and implementation of technology
Ensure alignment with The School Board of Broward County, Florida’s Mission and Goals along with all documents that govern the use of technology in The Broward County Public School (BCPS) system
Maintain strategic relationships/communications with all BCPS departments and divisions involved in systemic technology related initiatives and procurements, as identified in district flowcharts
Play a significant role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of current and new technology initiatives, especially those related to all documents that govern the use of technology in BCPS (i.e. District Technology Strategic Plan) in order to provide recommendations to The School Board of Broward County, Florida

ESOL Leadership Council

The ESOL Leadership Council is the vehicle for representation of parents of ELLs and serves as the liaison support to parents, schools, and community by promoting receptivity, acceptance, and awareness of multicultural issues. It is composed primarily of parents of English Language Learners (ELLs) and has members representing multi-ethnic backgrounds. Representatives to the council also include ELLs, parents, principals, teachers, and community representatives with support from the ESOL staff.

Quality Selection and Evaluation Committee

The Qualifications Selection and Evaluation Committee pre-qualifies contractors and evaluates, selects, and recommends awarding contracts for Construction Management, Design-Build, CMAR, Program Management or Professional Services subject to Section 287.055, Florida Statutes.

The Superintendent’s Insurance and Wellness Advisory Committee reviews all proposals for insurance offerings for the School Board of Broward County and makes recommendations to accept or deny any proposals to the School Board.

The North Area Advisory Council is a body of volunteers made up of parents, teachers, principals, district staff and community members. Our School Advisory Forum (SAF) Chairs serve in our area schools and bring forth concerns, recommendations, and compliments to our monthly meetings on behalf of parents and students.
