Our District is a national leader in providing innovative learning opportunities to help students reach their highest potential. BCPS provides families with a variety of school choice options and encourages parents/guardians to explore all that BCPS has to offer. 

  • When will I be notified about the status of my School Choice application?

    Parents and guardians who submitted a School Choice application for a magnet program  and/or school reassignment by the June 7, 2018, deadline will be notified on June 21, 2018, regarding the status of each application. Notifications will be emailed and updated on the Check Your Status webpage
     

  • What is my child's assigned school?

    School-aged children living within Broward County are assigned to a school based on their primary residential address and grade level. This is the child's boundary school. To find your child’s boundary school, please visit the School Locator.

  • I recently arrived due to a natural disaster. How do I register for the current school year?

    Welcome to Broward County! School-aged children living within Broward County are assigned to a
    school based on their primary residential address and grade level. This is the child's assigned school. Please contact the assigned school to register each child. To find your child’s assigned school, please visit the School Locator.

    We understand families want to have options for their child's education, which may include a choice other than their assigned school. The next opportunity to apply for School Choice for the 2018/19 school year begins on May 1, 2018.

  • What is School Choice?

    The 2018/19 School Choice application window is December 1, 2017 – February 7, 2018

    During the School Choice application window, parents and guardians may submit three applications – one in each of the following application categories: magnet programs, Nova schools and school reassignments. High-quality innovative programs, Career Technical Education (CTE) and Collegiate Academy options are also available by submitting a School Choice reassignment application. There is something for everyone:

    Magnet Programs offer in-depth experiences in specific areas of interest.
    If you are interested in a magnet program at your assigned school, a School Choice application is
    not necessary. Please contact your assigned school for information on how to participate.

    The Nova Campus provides four schools on one campus for kindergarten through twelfth grade
    students. (Applications accepted December 1, 2017 - February 7, 2018)

    Reassignments allow attendance to a school that is not your assigned school.

    Innovative Programs offer courses of study centered on specific themes.
    If you are interested in an innovative program at your assigned school, a School Choice
    application is not necessary. Please contact your assigned school for information on how to
    participate.

    Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways prepare high school students for post-secondary
    enrollment and apprenticeships. If you are interested in a CTE program at your assigned high
    school, a School Choice application is not necessary. Please contact your assigned high school
    for information on how to participate.

    Collegiate Academies offer high school students the opportunity to earn their high school
    diploma and their Associates in Arts degree.

    Please note: A separate application is needed for each of the school choice application categories
    (magnet programs, Nova schools and school reassignments).

    The next opportunity to apply for School Choice for the 2018/19 school year begins on May 1, 2018. 

  • Are applications still being accepted for the current school year?

    The 2017/18 School Choice application window closed September 1, 2017. General reassignment,
    magnet program and Nova Schools applications are no longer being accepted. The following are
    exceptions:

    A program at your child’s assigned school:
    A 2017/18 School Choice application is not needed. Instead, contact the school for information on how to participate in an innovative program or magnet program at your child’s assigned school.

    Broward County Public Schools Employees:
    Full-time employees may submit a 2017/18 School Choice application for a school within the Innovation Zone of your work location. Part-time employees may submit a 2017/18 School Choice application to the employee’s work location only.

    Active-Duty Military families:
    Parents and guardians who are Active-Duty military may submit a 2017/18 School Choice application for a school with space available.

    Moved out of the assigned school boundary:
    Parents may submit a 2017/18 School Choice application for their child to remain at his/her current school if the family has moved out of the assigned school boundary.

    The next opportunity to apply for 2018/19 School Choice begins July 1, 2018.

  • I am new to Broward County Public Schools, can I still apply for School Choice?

    Welcome to Broward County! School-aged children living within Broward County are assigned to a

  • I submitted an application before the deadline. Can I still send in supporting documents?

    Please submit your required documents to the Demographics & Student Assignments Department.

    Supporting documents received after the application deadline, February 7, 2018, will be considered late.

    Parents will notified after May 1, 2018 regarding the status a late application.
     

  • What if I missed the deadline, but still want to take advantage of School Choice?

    The next opportunity to apply for School Choice for the 2018/19 school year begins on July 1, 2018. At which time, parents and guardians may submit an application for remaining available seats for magnet programs or school reassignments. The application window for Nova schools closed on February 7, 2018.
