    The Family Counseling Program (FCP) functions under the belief that a mentally healthy student learns better. Research has found that when someone experiences emotional difficulty they may suffer repercussions that lead to problems in their general daily functioning. For students, this is often evident in the academic arena, whether academically, behaviorally, or in terms of poor attendance. Frequently, school-related problems may be symptomatic of those troubles. The family therapists address a variety of family and emotional problems in counseling, including:

     

    * Learning Disorders School Phobia Hyperactivity/ ADD/ADHD

    * Study Skills Peer Pressure Parenting Skills Self-esteem Issues

    * Abandonment Bereavement/Loss Separation/Divorce Domestic Violence

    * Anger Management Substance Abuse Physical Abuse Stress Management

    * Eating Disorders Aggression Anxiety/Depression Bullying

    * Communication Skills Crisis Intervention Economic Issues Self-destructiveness

     

    The Family Counseling Program additionally serves students in order to prevent possible future behavioral issues by offering preventive counseling in the following areas:

    > Difficulty Verbalizing Feelings

    > Difficulty Concentrating/Maintaining Task Focus

    > Difficulty Forming/Maintaining Relationships

    > Defiance of Authority toward Faculty/Staff

    > Infractions of School Rules

    > Verbal Altercations with Peers

    > Physical Aggression

     

    The FCP has been serving the Broward County community for more than thirty years. The program has consistently and positively impacted student academic performance, responsible behavior in school, and regular attendance through the individual, family, and group counseling services offered. FCP is committed to the goal of helping students reach their maximum potential in the classroom while promoting optimal mental health and family functioning. The FCP is available to all students and their families residing in Broward County and enrolled in any school within the county. Services are FREE and confidential.
