Welcome to the Principal's Weekly Messages!

  • Week of 11/15/2021

Good morning, Bobcats, this is Principal Fatout with another Principal’s Message.  I love to share the amazing accomplishments of all of our Bobcats.
As we enter our week before Thanksgiving Break I want to give thanks to being blessed with the opportunity to lead such a great Bobcat community. I also want to thank students, staff, and families for rising up during tough times and showcasing our “West Broward World Class” values.  This has truly been a new beginning filled with ups and downs, but ultimately we are collectively showing our Bobcat strength and perseverance.  For this I am thankful!!
Our Bobcat family is extremely proud of our students and we will collectively uplift them and honor them every step of the way.
I first want to thank our Bobcat Family and community members who are Veterans for your service and dedication to our great Nation. Happy Veterans Day!!
Parents, please monitor your student's academic progress via Pinnacle.  Teachers are posting assignments and progress monitoring via Canvas.   Remember your child’s grade point average (GPA) will adjust and post upon completion of the semester in January.  A friendly reminder that the semester grade is calculated with the averages of the 1st Quarter, 2nd Quarter, and Midterm examination.  This average, per class, will equal half of a full credit for the year; the second half will be earned with the averages of the 3rd Quarter, 4th Quarter, and Final Exam. Every grade counts!!
We will post our end of quarter procedures and our midterm examination calendar on our website.
We have numerous tutoring opportunities evident on campus.  National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, AP Biology, and Spanish National Honor Society provide after school tutoring in our media center from 3 to 4 PM.  Spanish National Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Peer Counseling also will push into Study Halls to provide tutoring when requested.  Mr. Rodriguez, Ms. Yard, Mr. Acosta, and Mrs. Acosta provide academic tutoring in the cafeteria for athletes before they enter their respective practices.  Our Reading, Science, and Mathematics Instructional Coaches conduct weekly push-in and pull-outs for students.  Our Bobcats have every opportunity to make adequate academic progress.  Please take advantage of these extra programs.

Lastly, a few points to remember that are important to include in the communications we send home.

    - West Broward works best as a partnership with its students and families. Please know that we emphasize, just as our School Mission says, a safe and secure learning environment. And for this we ask that every parent/guardian speak with their child to report concerns that may best be handled by an adult on campus.

    - See something. Say something! It is not just a slogan, it is necessary for keeping every student and adult on campus safe.

    - West Broward continues to check Student and Staff IDs at our Single Point Entry daily. Please know that a $5 obligation is given to any student who has no student ID to enter campus for every ID replaced after the fifth Student ID. Students must have their Student ID on their person while on campus.

    - Parents and Community are urged to talk to their children about the dangers of vaping, tobacco/nicotine and the various THC/CBD oils. Possession of any of these substances on campus is against BCPS School Board Policy and carry disciplinary infractions. Please check out website for details on anti-vaping resources and the BCPS Discipline Matrix.

    - WBH will continue to follow the BCPS Discipline Matrix for any infraction that goes against the Student Code of Conduct.

Have a happy and healthy week ahead and Go Bobcats!!
