  • Weeks of 2/24 & 3/3/2020

    Good morning Bobcats!! As we begin the week, I wanted to reach out and highlight events from the past few weeks and share some upcoming events.

    - Friday, February 14th, was designated "A Day of Service and Love". A moment of silence was held at 10:17AM. This day was a beautiful day where students, staff, and community members came together as a Bobcat family to participate in service projects on campus. I thank our community of Bobcats for coming together and showing their Bobcat spirit and pride.
    - On February 12th, we welcomed our incoming West Broward 9th Grade Bobcats, “Class of 2024”!! This night was a very special event. Over 900 families visited our campus. Each family was greeted with our amazing staff discussing academic opportunities and hundreds of West Broward students who represented their clubs, athletics, and curricular areas. What a great community!!!
    - Congratulation to our Lady Bobcat Soccer Team as they made it to the Regional Semifinal. They had an amazing Season.
    - On February 21st, we had seven boys qualify for the Wrestling Regional Tournament. As a team we were 1.5 points from 3rd place , placing 4th.
    The place winners include:
    106- Charles KeplerJr. - 9 - 4th
    126- Tyler Font - 9th - 4th
    132 - Kimari Rolle-9th - 3rd
    138- Jonathan Enriquez - 10th- 3rd
    160- Roman Ameigeiras - 12th- 3rd

    The regional tournament took place at G. Holms Braddock in Miami on Friday, February 28th, where our wrestlers gave it their all and finished their season with growth in their skills!

    - I love everything about our West Broward School Counselors! It is a Culture of Caring where they meet one-on-one with every current Bobcat and future Bobcat during course selection!!
    - Congratulations to Hayden Miller on performing in the All County Band Concert. Hayden even had a drum solo. What an amazing student performer, congratulations!!
    - Our color guard “A Guard” placed 1st in their class on at Charles W Flanagan High School event. They have back to back 1st places this season. Go Bobcats!!
    - WBHS students attended the annual College Tour!! Great job, Bobcats and Mrs. Hartzell!!
    - The following Bobcats were finalists at the Harvard Speech and Debate Tournament in their respective speech and debate events: Casey Glymph, Katie Pacini, Alex Steel, Daniel Fallon, Adriana Hernandez, Rhema Hooper, and Imani Sanchez. Very Proud!
    - Both Speech and Debate Duo teams have qualified for Debate Nationals!! Congratulations student leaders!! Albuquerque, here we come!
    - Congratulations to Alex Steele (6th place), Parker Harrison / Matthew Spenkuch (Runner Ups), and Salomon Mitrani / Gianni Garcia (4th place) at the Forensics Speech and Debate State Championship Finals in Orlando!! Very proud!!
    - On a personal/professional note, I would like to thank Mrs. Harrison for nominating me to the Florida Forensic League, resulting me me being awarded as the FFL State Administrator of the Year. I am appreciative of this recognition and am proud to support the West Broward Debate Program!
    - Our WBHS JROTC Marksmanship Team placed 1st (A Team) and 3rd (B Team) at the Coral Glades Marksmanship Match. Our Drill and Marksmanship Teams placed 1st in this past weekends Monarch Meet. Congrats, Cadets!
    - Congratulations to over 50 Bobcat students on placing in the Broward County World Language Competition this past weekend. Great leadership from Mr. Contreras, Ms. Olmo, and Ms. Ramirez!!
    - Congratulations to our African American History Class on hosting an amazing “Black History Expo” event on February 28th in West Broward’s cafeteria. Thank you, student leaders and Mrs. Houston, for your leadership!! We are all very proud of this event and it's impact on education and community!!
    - WBTV hosted “The Premiere”, an international film festival on 2/26. Great job, Bobcats!! Excellent leadership from students, Ms. Tesser, and Mr. Rivera.
    - Our Botcats 3653 made it to the semis! Our students won a special award for inspiration from NASA!! This means they have qualified for Houston! Amazing group of students!! Excellent leadership from Kate Sample, Ms. Wilson, Stephen Kuipers, and Mr. Large!
    - We are very excited to introduce Brian McCartney to the Bobcat Family as the new Football Coach!! Congratulations Coach McCartney!!
    - I am extremely proud of our student athletes. This past week boys and girls lacrosse, softball, girls and boys tennis, boys and girls track, and boys volleyball began their seasons. I am looking forward to a great season from all of these teams.
    - Boys Baseball traveled to Key West this weekend for a tournament against the Key West High School Conchs. Our boys won 11-1 in 5 innings on Friday and 5-1 in 7 innings on Saturday night! It was a great experience for our boys, their families, and our coaches to travel as a Bobcat Team and bring home the wins!

    West Broward Innovation Zone - Mark Your Calendars and Save the Date for 4/24: Tips for Successfully Transitioning Your Child from Elementary School to Middle School and then to High School.

    Upcoming this week:
    - Drama Department's performance of “Anything Goes”. The student lead performance will take place on March 5, 6, 12, and 13th starting at 6:30PM with a cost of $10 for students and $15 for adults. Please come support our Bobcat Performers!
    - Best of luck to our DECA students as they travel to Orlando to compete in the DECA State Championships!! Go Bobcats!!

    Good evening, Bobcat Family. This is Mr. Fatout's weekly Principal's Message. I first want to thank students, parents, and staff  for recognizing our amazing School Counselors during “National School Counseling Week”!! We love to recognize and show our appreciation for our Bobcat Counselors!! 

    Last week was a big week!!
    - First, our West Broward staff, student leaders, and staff leaders visited Silver Trail Middle School as part of our articulation!! Go Bobcats!! 
    - Pembroke Pines Mayor, Frank C. Ortis, presented a proclamation to the West Broward High School Performance Ensemble for placing 1st in Class 5A at the Florida Marching Band Championship (GMBC) in Daytona, Florida on November 23, 2019.
    - Human Relations Club and Mrs Houston’s African American Studies Class started Black History Month with a great educational assembly. Great job Bobcats!! 
    - Early Childhood welcomed the Baby Bobcats and their parents to an “Afternoon at the Zoo” as the theme for one of their Academic Studies evenings. 
    - BRACE and School Counseling hosted our annual College Fair. Over 65 colleges and more than 1,500 students attended!! Great job. Mrs. Longhi, Mrs. Hartzell-Strauss, Mrs. DiFede, and the Bobcats students who helped to organize the event!! 
    - West Broward World Guard and A Guard won first place at the Bobcat Invitational. We were very proud to watch WBHS Alumni, Kat and Natalie, on performing with FIU Guard!! Great job Bobcats!!!
    - The week ended with the City of Pembroke Pines and Broward Schools hosting a “City of Kindness Initiative” event at CB Smith Park!!  Spreading kindness and compassion is the Bobcat way!!

    This continues to be another big Bobcat week:
    - Wrestling also celebrated their Senior Night.  It was nice honoring our Senior wrestlers and recognizing their families.
    - Our Boys Varsity Basketball Team won their first District basketball game on Monday by 30 points. They moved on to win Wednesday night at a District semi-finalist game, and will be playing tomorrow night at Dr. Krop High School at 5PM against Miramar High for the District Championship!  Let's Go, Bobcats!!
    - Girl's Soccer will be competing tomorrow at 4PM at Tropical Park in Miami-Dade County at the Regional Semi-Final game!
    *We hope to see some of our Bobcat community out, sharing part of their Valentine's Day evening with our Basketball or Soccer teams, cheering them on with pride and love!!
    - West Broward High’s Curriculum Night for incoming 9th Grade Bobcats was February 12th.  We welcomed over 800 incoming Bobcats to the event for information on our academics, athletics, clubs, and activities. It was an incredible opportunity to share all the great opportunities offers our West Broward students.

    As a special note: Friday, 2/14, is early release day, with dismissal at 12:40PM. It has been designated "A Day of Service and Love", with a moment of silence at 10:17AM. This is a change from the original school calendar. This will be a non-instructional day, where students will participate in various activities with the opportunity to give back to our community.

    Students, Parents/Guardians, and Community: Please remember, we are active participants in the school's safety plan. This begins with every student and staff member wearing their WBH School ID while on campus. Students will need to have their ID visible when in the hallways and for access to the Media Center and school passes.

    Admin and Campus Security are appreciative to our students and staff who "See Something, Say Something"! We are proud of our Bobcats and enjoy every day we have together to walk towards Graduation! For this reason, we ask that students please make value-based decisions; do not bring unauthorized substances to school, do not partake in behaviors that are in violation of the BCPS Discipline Matrix, and please dress in accordance with the dress code every day.

    Parents and Guardians, we ask for your support at home with conversations regarding the dangers of vaping, to both your child's health and consequences to possession of vaping paraphernalia and nicotine/tobacco products on campus.   • Week of 2/3/2020

    As a very proud Principal, I would like to begin this weekly message with the introduction of our West Broward High State Champions Competitive Cheerleading Team! Congratulations to a great group of dedicated student athletes and thank you, Coach Culbertson, Coach Vazquez, and Coach Amber, for your leadership!!

    Our theme this year is “Make Your Mark”. Our student athletes, coaches, and dedicated parents have truly left their mark on campus and in our community. They have represented Broward Schools and West Broward High well at the various State Championships in which our Bobcats have competed. Congratulations!!

    Also, congratulations to Bobcat JROTC for being recognized as Honor Unit With Distinction by the District and 6th Brigade representing the Southeastern United States!! 99% success on all accreditation categories. Great job, Cadets!

    This past weekend, Model UN went to Washington DC to compete in the Amerimun conference. This was a conference unlike any we had attended before in its rigor and competition. Students began on Friday night, and then had an 11 hour day on Saturday, and a half day Sunday, doing great amounts of research, writing directives and resolutions, and making speeches in support of resolutions. I would like everyone to congratulate BEN BRADY for receiving BEST DELEGATE in his committee of SOCHUM (the UN Committee called Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee). There were many schools from across the country and even one from Italy. Other students whom I would like to recognize and congratulate are, Ben Molko, Isaiah Smith, Isaak Gutierrez, Zachary Morris, Mia-Simone Smith, and Tyler White.

    I wanted to share a Sun-Sentinel article that highlights West Broward’s Performance Ensemble. I am very proud of the dedication our students, staff, and parents share with each other and the community.

    Human Relations Club sponsored a field trip to the southeastern HBCUs, (Historically Black Colleges & Universities). Great leadership from Mrs. Houston, Ms. Yard, Ms. Liverpool, and Coach Washington!! I am taking this opportunity to celebrate Jaelyn Windham who received a full scholarship to Jackson State and Hamilton Holmes who has been accepted to Tuskegee University. We are so very proud of our Bobcats!!

    This past weekend West Broward hosted the state qualifiers for Speech and Debate. We had 7 students qualify for the Varsity State Tournament in Orlando.

    The Engineering Program competed and won recognition for their Suspension Bridge Design/Model and Generator! Well done Engineering Students and Mr. Large!

    West Broward High Vet Assisting Program held a dog wash on Saturday, February 1st. Another great turn out. Thank you Vet Assisting students, Ms. Terribile, Ms. Kuhns, and parents for your hard work!! You made many pups and owners happy.

    Congrats to our Lady Bobcat Soccer Team on becoming District Runner Ups. They advance to the Regional Quarterfinals next week. We will keep you posted on the date and time.

    Class of 2021! West Broward hosted a College Information/Junior Night Tuesday, February 4th @ 6PM in the Theater. Presentations were made by University of Florida, University of South Florida, and the Florida State University! Any questions, contact BRACE Advisors (Rm 250).

    Upcoming events this week include:
    - 2/6/2020: PSD with student dismissal at 11:40AM.
    - 2/7/2020: WBH College Fair for all 9th - 11th Grade students, scheduled during the school day for students to attend.
    - Our Boys Soccer and Girls Basketball participate in their District Tournaments this week. Our Girls Soccer will continue their season in the Region Tournament. Best of luck!
    - Bobcat Wrestling Match and Senior Night will be rescheduled.
    - WBH Bobcat Winter Guard is hosting Guard Show on Saturday, 2/8/2020, starting at 12PM. Please come out to watch and support our award-winning guard program compete at 4:24PM. Entry fee to watch the event and all of the competitors for the day is $15.

    Wishing all Bobcats a happy weekend! As we end the third week of the New Year, I wanted to share some of the recent highlights that make us so proud of our Bobcats!!

    Last weeks highlights include:
    - Riley Pulliam won 1st Place in Visual Arts at the PTA Reflections Awards!! She is heading to the State level! Congratulations!!
    - Last week we celebrated with our Broward Schools Teacher of the Year Finalist, Mrs. Sarah Zorn-Milmed, and our Assistant Principal of the Year, Mr. Richard Gonzalez, at the Caliber Awards dinner. Congratulations!!
    - On Tuesday, January 14th, the School Board Members and Superintendent Runcie recognized JROTC Raiders Girls and the West Broward Performance Ensemble for their State Championships by presenting a proclamation. What a great experience. Thank you to those who participated: students, parents, student leaders, and the School Board!!
    - SRO Maher paid a visit to the Baby Bobcats!! Pretty cool to see the kids interact with career representatives. Thank you, Officer Maher!!
    - This week we were excited to host our annual ACT Family Night on Wednesday, January 22nd, @ 6PM in the Media Center. if you missed it and would like more info please contact our BRACE Advisors: Mrs. Hartzell @ tina.hartzell@browardschools.com, or Mrs. Longhi @ vanessa.longhi@Browardschools.com.
    - Peer Counseling students educated West Broward students on Human Trafficking Prevention & Awareness. Great job, Peer Counselors!!
    - World Guard opened their season with a show preview. We are extremely excited to see what these talented group of students have in store for this season. I heard the theme is “Pinball Wizard”!! Best of luck!!
    - DECA hosted their annual Fashion Show. Great job, done well by the student leaders, and thank you to Mr. Shaw for your leadership!!
    - Boys Soccer, Girls Basketball, and Boys Basketball each celebrated their Senior Nights. Congratulations, 2020 Senior Athletes!!
    - This Friday, we wish our Competitive Cheerleading team the best of luck as they compete at the Regional Championship, at Coral Glades High School. Way to Go Bobcats!!!
    - Saturday, Robotics hosted a Lego tournament on campus all day!!

    Moving forward, we are now at the beginning of baseball, softball, and lacrosse seasons. Best of luck to all of our Bobcat Athletes!!

    West Broward continues to check Student and Staff IDs at our Single Point Entry daily. Please know that a $5 obligation is given to any student who has no student ID to enter campus for every ID replaced after the fifth Student ID. Students must have their Student ID on their person while on campus.

    Parents and Community are urged to talk to their children about the dangers of vaping, tobacco/nicotine and the various THC/CBD oils. Possession of any of these substances on campus is against BCPS School Board Policy and carry disciplinary infractions.   • Week of 1/13/2020

    Greetings Bobcats! As we enter the second week of the third quarter, I want to wish everyone again a Happy New Year!! I love continuing to witness the amazing things our staff, students, and community do each and every day. I wish everyone a blessed 2020.
    An important well-wish goes out to the Senior Class of 2020. Continue to take college entrance exams, work hard towards academic success, and take care of your fellow human brings along the way. Your path to graduation is set and I can’t wait to honor you and celebrate your successes on Graduation Day!! (May 27, 2020)

    As students returned to campus they were welcomed with a good morning and music. The cafeteria was filled with positive welcome back messages created by the West Broward High Staff for our Bobcat students!! What a great way to start 2020 with a Culture of Caring!! Go Bobcats!!

    This past week was filled with accomplishments.
    - WBHS SAT Family Night took place on 1/8/2020 at 6PM in the Media Center. A College Board rep shared info about the SAT and how to prepare for this test.     - So proud of our Bobcat Competitive Cheerleading Team as they have become BCAA Broward County District Champions. Congratulations!
    - Very proud of our Girls Soccer Team for their commitment to each other, and celebrated their Senior players on 1/9/2020 with a fantastic win over Miramar HS!! Congratulations Seniors!!!
    - Bobcat JROTC Raider Awards night was held on Wednesday evening. Congratulations Cadets on a great JROTC season. Thank you for your leadership, 1SG Sosa!!
    - I wanted to also highlight our recent chorus accomplishments. I loved every moment watching West Broward Chorus perform at Disney’s Candlelight Processional at EPCOT!! Chorus also performed at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville “Tree Lighting Event” over the winter break. Amazing performance, wonderful music by our West Broward students. What a great group of students, all very talented! Thank you for your leadership, Mr. Diaz!!!

    Our upcoming events for this week include:
    - Herff Jones will be in the cafeteria for cap/gown purchases during both lunches on 1/14 & 1/15.
    - Good luck to the following athletic teams in their games this week on 1/14 and 1/16: Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls JV and Varsity Basketball!
    - Thursday, 1/16, is a PSD day with dismissal at 11:40AM; a bagged to-go lunch will be available to all students.
    - Thursday, 1/16, Mr. Gonzalez will be hosting a Sophomore Class Assembly in the theater during 8th period.

    We would like to wish our very own Mrs. Sarah Zorn-Milmed good luck at Thursday night's Caliber Awards, as she has earned a place as a District Finalist for Teacher of the Year!! We could not be more proud of our Bobcat leader in education!

    Please remember that Monday, 1/20/2020, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and schools will be closed.
