  • Week of 9/12/2022

Happy Monday.  It is always great to be a part of our Bobcat Community!!  This is Principal Fatout with my weekly Principal’s Message.  I hope this message finds you and yours well.

I want to first thank our staff, students, and community for following all our safety protocols that Broward County and West Broward have in place. Recently, we have had to put our safety protocols into action.  The most recent was a social media message posted on a student message group that seemed to potentially threaten our West Broward campus.  After investigation, it was determined that the post was not made by a West Broward student, but was posted by a student from another school and the authorities handled the case in cooperation with that student’s school and family.

I am beginning my message with information that the safety and security our your child, my staff, and our community is of the utmost importance.  My staff, in collaboration with Pembroke Pines PD, will always investigate and protect our community as we all take an active role in the See Something Say Something practice.  We appreciate the open line of communication we have with our staff, students, and community.

Sunday, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and the brave men & women with the NYPD & FDNY who put themselves in harm’s way during the attacks on America on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.  We vow to never forget and always keep them in our hearts.

Monday, WBTV, in collaboration with JROTC, aired their yearly public service announcement to thousands of Bobcats remembering everyone who sacrificed during September 11th. Click here to view the WB in the AM show and 9-11 Tribute PSA through the school’s website. Thank you WBTV and JROTC, great student leadership and great leadership by Mr. Rivera, LT Colonel Merkel, and 1SG Torres and 1SG Rosario.

Parents of students who drive, please have a conversation with your child about NOT parking in the surrounding communities.  If a student does not have a WBH student parking decal to park in the student lot on campus, then your child should not be driving to school, may not park anywhere on campus, and is strongly discouraged from parking at the post office, warehouses to the north of campus, nor any of the surrounding home communities.  The surrounding communities have contacted me and are concerned students are parking cars in their neighborhoods and jumping over their barrier walls to exit their property and enter school. This is a safety concern for both the surrounding communities and our campus.  Cars will be towed from their developments at the owner’s expense.

Furthermore, it has been reported that vehicles leaving West Broward’s school grounds are driving their cars in a high rate of speed on the surrounding public streets just south and north of campus.  Police have been notified by the public regarding these matters.  We are asking that all students and the drivers that pick them up from campus practice safe driving habits on the roads surrounding the campus.

Below is an important Parent Link message I recently sent out regarding threat awareness and reporting.

This is Principal Fatout and I am reaching out to share important information with you regarding school safety and tip reporting. School safety and security is everyone's responsibility. If you see or hear something that does not seem right, say something. Be a Broward Buddy, Report a Tip! Call 911 immediately in an emergency. If you have a NON-Emergency Safety or Security concern, please report it through any of our available tip reporting tools. You can report a tip by calling 754-321-3500, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by using the Anonymous Tip Submission Box on the Broward Schools website, by sending an email to SecurityTips@browardschools.com, or by downloading and using the FortifyFL App and/or the SaferWatch with Alyssa’s Alert App on your phone or mobile device. This app is also available on every Canvas account available to your student.

By sharing tips such as reporting threats, harassing behaviors, or illegal activity, you are assisting Broward Schools with identifying at-risk individuals before they may cause harm to themselves or others. When reporting a tip, please provide as much information as possible, including the location, date, and time. The more information that is provided, the better district staff can respond to the concerns. It takes all of us to keep our schools and communities safe. Thank you for doing your part. Together we can continue to make a difference.

    Housekeeping Notes:

WBH Admin asks that all traffic in the parent loop practice safety procedures for ALL children. Students are to be dropped off on the sidewalk in front of the school from the right lane only. Any other location is not safe for your child to cross without the potential risk of injury from moving vehicles. The Campus Traffic Map is on the school's website. Please follow the expected flow with no student traffic anywhere except the sidewalk in front of the school. See campus map and notification from Pembroke Pines PD regarding school traffic notifications attached in email.

Students are not allowed to park on campus without a Student Parking Permit. Students with an approved parking permit must park in the South/Student Lot only. Students found to be parking on campus without a permit will be consequenced in line with the BCPS Discipline Matrix.

West Broward works best as a partnership with its students and families. Please know that we emphasize, just as our School Mission says, a safe and secure learning environment. And for this we ask that every parent/guardian speak with their child to report concerns that may best be handled by an adult on campus.

See something. Say something! It is necessary to keep every student and adult safe on campus.

West Broward continues to check Student and Staff IDs at our Single Point Entry daily. Please know that a $5 obligation is given to any student who has no student ID to enter campus for every ID replaced after the fifth Student ID. Students must have their Student ID on their person while on campus.

Parents and Community are urged to talk to their children about the dangers of vaping, tobacco/nicotine and the various THC/CBD oils. Possession of any of these substances on campus is against BCPS School Board Policy and carry disciplinary infractions. Please check out website for details on anti-vaping resources and the BCPS Discipline Matrix.

WBH will continue to follow the BCPS Discipline Matrix for any infraction that goes against the Student Code of Conduct.

  • Week of 8/23/2022

This is Principal Fatout with my Principal Message.  I hope this message finds you and yours well on a great weekend.  Thank you for a great opening of the 2022-2023 school year!!  I am a proud Bobcat Principal!!!

My Principal messages are designed to share as much pertinent West Broward information as I can with our community.  With so many high schools close to each other, it is my goal to share with you and the Bobcat Community the amazing events, culture, and successes at West Broward. Even if you or your child are not involved in an organization or event I highlight during these messages, I feel it's important that everyone knows and celebrates all the accomplishments earned and information that needs to be shared with Bobcat Nation!  We are diverse and very proud of the best Community in Florida, if not the Nation!!!

This year we celebrate our 15th Anniversary as a school.  Our theme this year is, "Year 15, Continue Building Our Bobcat Legacy"!!  West Broward High is listed in the top 150 out of over 2,500 high schools in Florida and top 6% of the top 1,550 out of over 24,000 high schools in the Nation. I look forward to witnessing the amazing accomplishments of our student body as they are led by our incredible staff, sponsors, and coaches.

As I visited the majority of our classes in the first week back to school, I witnessed active engagement by all of our teachers and students.  Our student body has embraced the opening of school and seems to have adjusted rather quickly to the changes in their bell schedules.  I am very proud of the energy and look forward to continuing to visit and witness authentic engagement and activities.

Thursday afternoon, 8/18/2022, our Student Government Officers, lead by Ms. Yard, hosted an IOC (Inter-Organization Council) with Club Sponsors and Executive Officers to discuss Club and Organization themes and events for this school year.  It was a great meeting, full of events for the first semester focused on building school spirit and community.

Thursday night, 8/18/2022, we hosted a varsity football game.  There were over 1000 spectators in attendance to watch our team win 28-8.  It was great to see our Bobcat Pride!

Friday morning, 8/19/2022, our Class of 2023 Seniors hosted a "Senior Sunrise" event at 6:20 AM on our basketball courts near the football field.  Thank you Senior Sponsors, Ms. Terribile and Mr. Rodrigues, for your leadership!! Multiple teachers came by early in the morning to enjoy quality time with our Senior students.

Monday, 8/22/2022, began the girl's volleyball season at home. JV played at 4:30 PM and Varsity at 6 PM vs Cypress Bay.  The crowd showed up in BLACK OUT to enjoy our first home game in two years! Please continue to come out and support our Bobcat Girls Volleyball team throughout the season.

Football opens their season Friday Night @ 7PM at Cypress Bay Field.  Please come out and cheer on our football team as they embark on what is going to be a great season!!

Our clubs and organizations start up their meet and greets with club members.  Ms. Yard and staff will post meeting schedules as the clubs and activities begin to get their students into action.  Stay tuned to the website and morning announcements on WB in the AM for all activity and athletic information.

WB in the AM started morning announcements on the first day of school.  What an amazing group of student leaders lead by Mr. Rivera and our new teacher in the WBTV Program, Mrs. Bueno.  Please support our WBTV students and stay informed to all school-related information by tuning in during the first period of the day each day and/or watch the archived announcements on our school website. Our student body deserves to witness the daily current events/announcements every day.

Make plans to join us for Open House on Tuesday, August 30, at 5:30PM! Arrive early for parking and visit the cafeteria as early as 4:30PM to purchase PE uniforms, join PTSA, and put money into school lunch accounts! See the Open House flyer in your email and on the school's website.
