    ABOUT THE SMART BOND PROGRAM

    The SMART Program is an $800 million capital improvement program put in place to enhance the educational experience of Broward County Public Schools students. This is accomplished by upgrading existing school facilities and providing schools with advanced technology, athletic equipment and musical instruments.

    The primary focus of the SMART Program includes capital improvements to school facilities such as roofing, HVAC improvements, fire alarm and fire sprinkler upgrades, electrical, ADA, and media center enhancements, STEM lab improvements, and classroom additions.

    SMART PROGRAM – EARLY 2020 UPDATE

    While classes go online, construction continues at Broward Schools. With the health and safety of our entire SMART Team a top priority, the improvements of our schools continue, with all possible preventative measures in place.

    CHARLES W. FLANAGAN NEW ADDITION COMPLETE

    Students at Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines are excited to use the newest building on their campus, with the final touches on the 20-classroom building completed over the 2019/2020 Winter Break.

    REELSMART – WINTER CONSTRUCTION 2019

    With 70 schools undergoing Active Construction, students and staff have begun to reap the rewards of their school’s newest features. Enjoy footage highlighting some of the work that took place while students were away on winter break. 

     
    D.E.E.P. INTERNSHIP – SUMMER 2019

    Students at Blanche Ely and Stranahan High School celebrated an end to a successful summer as their Developing Engineering Explorers Program (DEEP) internship came to a close. This was the fourth year for the two pre-engineering magnet schools.

    A Bond Oversight Committee (BOC) Report is released quarterly to provide a progress report of the SMART Bond Program and how the funds are working towards making improvements to schools districtwide.

    As part of the School Choice Enhancement Program (SCEP), each school is allocated $100,000 for capital-related projects to improve the condition of their instructional and educational spaces.
