Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a great break and joyous holiday season!

Tuesday, January 12th is an early release day and Thursday, January 14th is a Professional Study Day. Students will be released at 12:40 on Tuesday and 11:40 on Thursday.

The second quarter will end on Tuesday, January 12th and and the new semester starts on Wednesday, January 13th. We are encouraging all students, but especially students who struggled with their academics in the first semester, to return to the physical school campus. We will continue to follow rigorous sanitizing and cleaning protocols as well as other health and safety initiatives such as mandatory mask wearing and one-directional hallways to alleviate congestion. Please call the office if you would like to change your student's current choice of learning location.

Boys and girls basketball were back in action this week! The JV boys defeated West Broward 45-15 and Plantation 56-51 and the girls Varsity team beat West Broward 65-19. The boys Varsity team lost a hard fought battle to West Broward 52-43 and won an exciting nail-biter against Plantation 54-52. Great job Spartans!

On the 5th offense of forgetting their ID, a new ID will be printed for them and students will receive a $5 obligation to cover the cost of the reprint.

Additional Information for the new Camera/Attendance Policy

The Broward School Board has updated Attendance Policy 5.5 so that students are now required to have their cameras on for attendance and instruction. The new policy reads, "During distance learning, the use of student cameras is required for attendance and instruction. Students will be counted in attendance in the learning environment during their scheduled class time. Teachers should be flexible and consider any extenuating circumstances of individual students who may be unable to turn on a camera. Teachers may consider other evidence of attendance for individual cases."

Students are expected to turn and keep their cameras on for attendance and participation in their classes. Students will be marked absent if they do not turn their cameras on during class.

Hollywood Hills High School will begin the "camera on" policy starting Monday, December 7th. This will allow teachers the next two days to make sure their students are aware of the new policy and give students two days to address any technology issues with their devices.

If your current device has any issues with the camera or microphone, please contact the school at 754-323-1050 to arrange for the pickup of a new device.

It's been so long since we've seen you all, and we're so excited to see and engage with each of you during class. If you have any specific questions about camera use in class, you can reach out to your teachers or your administrator.

What are some examples of “extenuating circumstances” where a student would not be able to turn on their camera?
School staff will work with families on a case-by-case basis.
    • Homelessness/Students in transition
    • Internet bandwidth at the student’s home
    • Inoperable technology (broken camera or no camera available)
    • Parent or student has communicated a specific extenuating circumstance
    • Student health condition
    • Other extenuating circumstances as determined by school staff

Good evening Spartan Families!  This is Mr. Most and these are your Friday updates for September 11th, 2020.

Nineteen years ago today, our nation experienced an unimaginable tragedy. On the morning of September 11th, 2001, over 3,000 people lost their lives during the terrorist attack on the United States. In honor of their memory, we observed a moment of silence this morning and let us all stand together to continue to work to be the change we want to see in our nation.
