Susan Antunez, Math Coach

  • About Mrs. Antunez:

Tropical has been her home since 1999. Mrs. Antunez taught 1st grade for 11 years and served as grade chair during most of that time.  She worked as a district math trainer and curriculum author for many years. Mrs. Antunez obtained National Board Certification and her Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  She created and taught our Math Specials at Tropical for several years before stepping into her current role as an instructional math coach.  Mrs. Antunez also serves as part of our Support Staff and is our Title 1 Liaison.

  • I strive to ensure that every teacher and student has access to high-quality math instruction, resources and support.  As a child, I didn't enjoy math one bit and had many teachers that didn't enjoy teaching math.  It wasn't until a college course titled "Teaching Mathematics in Elementary School" that my college professor took the time to help me understand the why behind math and sparked my love for it.  My passion is teaching, regardless of the subject, but I really enjoy teaching math to students because a child that understands math concepts has a world of possibilities at his/her fingertips.  I equally enjoy helping my colleagues develop a love for math and sound teaching practices so they can positively affect their students.

Please reach out if you have any concerns or questions regarding your child's progress.

    Regards,

    Mrs. Antunez
