The students at Sawgrass Elementary are given many avenues with which to express themselves through music. Our students learn about music through movement, reading, notating, listening, singing, performing, critiquing and evaluating. Music reading begins at a young age with our Kindergarten classes identifying the lines and spaces on the staff and this continues through 5th grade where the students read and perform the music and notes on the staff. Our students are given opportunities to play the xylophones, recorders, tubano drums, violins and auxiliary instruments such as hand drums, tambourines, maracas and triangles to name a few. We also have chorus and drama for our students that would like to expand their involvement in music. Chorus meets from August through December, while drama meets from January through May of each year.
