Course Description

  • Social Studies (history, geography, economics, and government/civics) fosters learning that is built on skills and knowledge.

    Students are prepared to critically analyze the world around them in order to make meaningful local, national, and international decisions.

    Students learn to use a variety of sources including primary and secondary sources in order to build content knowledge and evaluate synthesize and analyze social studies content.

    Students learn to incorporate a variety of perspectives in order to develop their historical interpretations.

    Instruction emphasizes depth of development of important ideas and concepts within appropriate breadth of topic coverage.

    Students move from teacher directed curriculum to a more student directed inquiry learning model.

    Curriculum content which is based on the Next Generation Florida Sunshine Standards includes knowledge, democratic values and beliefs, critical thinking skills, and social and civic participation skills.
