Our school is proud to provide a safe and secure learning environment - an environment that fosters intellectual development, creativity, and friendships. These policies and guidelines enable us to create, sustain, and grow this wonderful community at Silver Palms Elementary. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our School Policies.
Code Book of Student Conduct
The Code of Student Conduct handbook is going green. The Broward County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct handbook will be available electronically in English, Haitian-Creole, Portuguese and Spanish. An electronic version of the handbook will be emailed to parents and students who have entered their email addresses in the District's Virtual Counselor.
Parents and students may add or update their email addresses and register for Virtual Counselor access at www.broward.k12.fl.us/dwh. The Code of Student Conduct handbook will continue to be available on the District's website . A limited number of print copies of the handbook are available to parents. Parents/guardians may contact their school to request a print copy.
Drop Off & Pick Up
Students should be picked up and dropped off at the car loop only. Parents wishing to park, can do so in the designated areas. Please refrain from parking in the staff area. After the first week of school, parents are not allowed to walk children to their classrooms.
Our School Dress Code
Our community voted for our school to be a uniform school. Please be advised that school uniforms are MANDATORY.
Benefits of a Uniform Policy
Research suggests that school uniforms
- Improve discipline, self-esteem and self-respect.
- Focus the student towards learning.
- Eliminate the fear of whether their clothing choice will be acceptable by peers.
- Strengthens school pride.
- Identify student population from strangers on school grounds.
- Cost effective.
All children should start wearing their school uniform on the very first day of school this August. Please call us at school if you have any questions or concerns.
A parent or guardian may request an application for an exemption waiver from the uniform program. Exemption waivers must be completed by the 10th day of the student's enrollment.
Parents and Visitors
All visitors including parents must check in at the Single Point of Entry prior to going to any classrooms or any area on campus. You should bring an official photo ID with you, like your driver’s license, Florida’s official state identification card, or a passport.
Report an Absence
Absences must be reported via the attendance line at 754-323-7452 or a written note. The report must come from a parent and give the student's name, date(s) of the absence and the reason for it. Parents MUST report these absences within two days following the absences. A note can be sent either the day before or not later than the second day after the absence.
Attendance Policy 5.5
1. All students' absences must align with the eight (8) reasons allowed for absences, as outlined in the Attendance Policy and in the Code of Student Conduct.
2. Parents must state reason (from approved list) for absence when they call in or write a note to report a student's absence.
3. Absences can only be excused if they correspond with one of the eight (8) allowed reasons.
Students arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be considered TARDY. If students arrive after 8:10 a.m., the student will need to obtain a late pass from Single Point of Entry to be admitted to class.Tip Line
If you need to report something you can do so ANONYMOUSLY! No one will ever be able to know where the report came from. We need you to help keep our schools and our children safe, so if there is something going on that needs to be reported please do so!
