First Grade Rocks!!
Dear First Grade Families,
Please read with your child. Children can read in different ways:
1) Reading can be 'looking at pictures'
2) Reading can be 'looking at pictures' and/or 'telling your own story'.
3) Reading can be turning the pages and retelling stories in your own words.
Reading is a multifaceted activity. So much is gained! Allow your children to make mistakes. If you like, correct 'gently' - don't forget - encourage and praise!!
Try "Waiting Games" in line, driving in the car, waiting for your food in a restaurant. Play number games - count, skip-count, add small numbers, give simple word problems: 'If you have 6 pieces of candy and brother gives you two more - how many will you have altogether?'. What if he eats one? two? How many are left? Above all - remember - Have fun and praise - praise - praise!
Student Planners should be reviewed daily by parent or guardian and initialed next to that day's entry.
BoxTops are collected continually throughout the year. This is greatly appreciated as it represents $$$ for our school!
And boy does every child love it when their class wins the ice cream party!!!
Copy and paste any of these sites into your web browser and have fun!!
