Greetings Parents Guardians and Community Members,

I am excited about the future that is being created at C. Robert Markham Elementary school. We encourage you to participate and support our efforts to prepare students for college and career success.

One way to be informed of our school’s plans for academic improvement is to attend our School Advisory Council (SAC) and School Advisory Forum (SAF) meetings each month. The next meeting is on Wednesday, October 19 and will be followed by our Hispanic Heritage Program.

Our Community Based Connections (CBC) afterschool program should get started this month. This is a free program where students receive tutoring and homework assistance. CBC will also provide mentoring, project-based learning, and club activities.

All Broward County teachers are required to meet state certifications or be in the process of completion. Included with this newsletter is a list of any staff who are currently completing state-required certifications.

Are you ready for our Cherrydale Cookie Fundraiser? Kick off is Wednesday, October 5th, and we are asking for your help. We need parents to register your student at

Have you noticed the green and white bin outside the south fence? Markham is going GREEN by partnering with Florida Textile Recycling Programs. The "Bin" benefits include a recycling curriculum for the classes and no work for our staff in providing a way to support recycling. The program will donate $200 to our Sunshine Club for every ton collected, which will be used for Teacher Incentives. So, please bring all the old shoes and clothes to the bin!

It is going to be a wonderful year! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 754-322-6950.

Shedrick Dukes, Ed.S. Principal
