Get Ready to Read! BCPS is Excited to Join Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® with 40,000 Free Books for Students

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is excited to participate in Jumpstart’s Read for the Record® on October 28, 2021, joining millions of readers across the nation to read the book, Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon.
In addition, through a partnership between BCPS, the Children's Services Council of Broward County and multiple Broward County early childhood stakeholders, a free copy of Amy Wu and the Patchwork Dragon will be provided to each pre-kindergarten and kindergarten child in Broward County. That’s 40,000 books for 40,000 children!
Media are invited to cover the following Read for the Record® events:
BCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright is getting a “jumpstart” on this year’s Read for the Record,
reading to students at the following schools:
- Monday, October 25, at 10.a.m – Oakridge Elementary School, 1507 North 28th Avenue, Hollywood, FL 33020. Elected officials and representatives from the Children’s Services Council of Broward County will also be reading to students.
- Tuesday, October 26, at 8:30 a.m. – Peters Elementary School, 851 N.W. 68th Avenue, Plantation, FL 33317
Guest readers across the District will also Read for the Record on October 28, including Broward County School Board members and elected officials representing Broward County, as well as representatives from sports teams, local businesses, organizations, libraries and more. Below are three events open to the media.
