Broward County School Board and Interim Superintendent Request Funding from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis
September 8, 2021
On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in a letter to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, The School Board of Broward County, Florida, and Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright requested that all federal stimulus dollars allocated for school districts, including Broward County Public Schools, by Congress be released as soon as possible. This includes funding from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund II (ESSER II) and American Rescue Plan (ARP).
At the onset of the pandemic, the State distributed ESSER I funding to school districts across the state. Broward County Public Schools continues to experience a need for stimulus dollars to mitigate the impact of the pandemic on students and staff; however, ESSER II and ARP funding have not been made available.
Broward County Public Schools submitted its ESSER II Funding Plan to the State on August 12, 2021. The District has not received any information from the State on how to apply for the ARP funding.
