The machinist program, sponsored in part by the South Florida Manufacturers Association was awarded $518,000 to purchase state-of-the-art equipment and technology to remain current and meet manufacturing industry demands.
The Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance also recognized the partnership between Atlantic Technical College and South Florida Manufacturers Association with its 2019 Economic Development Leadership Partner in Education Award. The award recognizes the impact of the longstanding partnership, its benefits to both parties, and the increased opportunities provided to students who benefit from access to industry members, apprenticeship, internship and employment opportunities.
Atlantic Technical yacht service program, sponsored in part by the Marine Industries of South Florida, received $66,000 in funding to provide students with resources and support through counseling and recruitment programs.
BCPS is one of 15 Florida school districts receiving funds from a total of $10 million dedicated to career and technical education for the Florida Department of Education’s newly created Florida Pathways to Career Opportunities.
“A skilled workforce is paramount to Broward’s economic growth. Students who have higher levels of training and education are more productive, earn higher wages and are more likely to be employed than unskilled workers,” said BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie. “We applaud the state’s commitment to ensuring our communities have access to world-class education and a highly skilled workforce.”
