Sawgrass Springs Middle School Student Earns An Experience That’s Out of This World

Jayda Washington-Boothe Sawgrass Springs Middle School seventh grade student Jayda Washington-Boothe is not only a recipient of the 2020 U.S. Rocket and Space Center Hall of Fame Scholarship, but she also earned the unique opportunity to attend the weeklong Space Academy at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

The program – specifically designed for trainees who have a passion for space exploration – promotes STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), while training students with hands-on activities and missions based on teamwork, leadership and problem solving.

Jayda spent the week training with a team that flew a simulated space mission to Mars. As part of the experience, students slept in quarters designed to resemble the International Space Station and trained in simulators like those used by NASA. Jayda’s crew participated in experiments and successfully completed an extra-vehicular activity or spacewalk.

Congratulations, Jayda, on this outstanding accomplishment.
