Nova Middle School Law Studies Represented the State at the
2023 “We The People” Mock Congressional Hearing National Invitational
Nova Middle School’s mock congressional hearing team was named best in the nation after participating in the "We The People" Mock Congressional Hearing National Invitational in Washington D.C., held April 20-21, 2023. Nova Middle’s 35-student team competed against more than 40 teams from across the nation to take the top honor, which was announced on April 24, 2023.
During the competition, the students intelligently conversed with scholars, law and history professors, attorneys, and government officials in 12 different mock congressional hearings about the Constitution and its application in the past and present. The students were able to recite from memory landmark Supreme Court cases and apply them to present-day issues.
In addition to winning the national title, the team also won a student and a class award for its social media videos tackling the questions, "What are the most important domestic and/or global challenges facing Americans today? and “What policies can you suggest to address them?"
Nova Middle School earned a spot in the national competition after acquiring the state title in February 2023.
