The School Board of Broward County, Florida approved the 2024/25 School Calendar for Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) at its Tuesday, January 23, 2024, School Board meeting, featuring an earlier start date and concluding the first semester before the winter break. The first day of school for the 2024/25 school year is Monday, August 12, 2024.  

"We are pleased to announce the 2024/25 school calendar, which has been carefully considered to meet the needs of our students, families and staff,” BCPS Superintendent Dr. Peter B. Licata said. “With the first semester now starting earlier and concluding before the winter break, we believe both students and teachers will have more time to prepare for exams and recharge before the second semester.”  

The approved calendar includes a week-long Thanksgiving break, two weeks for winter break and one week for spring break. 

Key dates include: 

  • First day of school: Monday, August 12, 2024 
  • Thanksgiving break: Monday, November 25 – Friday, November 29, 2024 
  • Winter break: Monday, December 23, 2024 – Friday, January 3, 2025 
  • Spring break: Monday, March 24 – Friday, March 28, 2025  
  • Last day of school: Tuesday, June 3, 2025 

The calendar also includes 10 teacher planning days; days designated for interim report cards, report cards and holidays; and contingencies for up to three severe weather makeup days, if needed.
