BCPS Thanks the State for Submitting Its Application for Federal American Rescue Plan Funds
October 7, 2021
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) appreciates that the state of Florida has submitted its plan to the U.S. Department of Education for access to American Rescue Plan COVID-19 relief funding for school districts.
Broward County School Board members and BCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright have been asking for the state to apply for this much needed funding, which will be used to cover mounting expenses accrued due to the impact of the pandemic, such as the need to hire additional teachers for learning acceleration and increased mental health services for students.
Once the funds are made available to the state, BCPS asks that the state set up a mechanism for school districts to immediately have access to these funds.
“We are thankful that the state listened to our concerns and has taken steps necessary to access these funds,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Cartwright. “I expect COVID-19 to continue to have an impact on our District and community. These critical funds are needed support our students and staff as we remain focused on providing healthy and safe learning environments.”
