Florida Department of Education Releases Assessment Results for 2022/23 School Year - BCPS Outperforms the State in Majority of Tested Areas
On Thursday, June 29, 2023, the Florida Department of Education released results for student assessments administered statewide during the 2022/23 school year, including the new Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which are progress monitoring assessments administered three times a year for mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA). Results for the state’s End of Course exams for Biology, Civics, U.S. History, Algebra and Geometry were also released, as well as the Statewide Science Assessments for grades 5 and 8.
Overall results show Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) has made significant progress and outperformed the state in the majority of tested areas for FAST.
FAST is administered in three phases. Based on the third and final assessment of FAST in the spring of 2023, BCPS students:
- Scored higher than the state average in 11 out of 14 tested areas and grade levels – and tied with the state average in one area (see chart below).
- Made significant gains in Math and ELA in every grade level, compared to the first two administrations of FAST.
