Resiliency Training Information for Parents & Students

The State Board of Education passed rules requiring schools to provide a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction to students in grades 6 – 12 related to youth mental health awareness, coping with emotions, substance use and abuse, human trafficking awareness, and online safety.  The focus of this instruction is to foster a safe and nurturing learning environment that enables students to thrive both academically and socially.  The curriculum will be delivered to students through their core classes.  The topics are as followed:

September: Resiliency and Risk of Suicide

October: Substance Abuse Prevention and Mental Wellness

November: Online Safety and Anxiety

January: Human Trafficking and Support Systems

February: Emotions and Preventing Violence

March: Stress Management and Depression

There is no statutory waiver to opt out from the instruction. In addition, there are no makeup sessions.  As a parent, this is an excellent opportunity for conversation about mental and emotional health with your child.
