BCPS Hosts 2024 Senior Send-Off Drive-through Event
for High School Seniors Experiencing Housing Instability

WHO:
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Homeless Education Assistance Resource Team (HEART) 

WHAT:
Up to 100 eligible graduating seniors from the Class of 2024, who receive services from HEART, participate in a graduation celebration where they are equipped with dorm room essentials as they embark on their post-secondary education or military journey.

WHY:
As seniors prepare for the next stage in their education, the BCPS Homeless Education Program (HEART) teamed up with Broward Education Foundation and various community partners to ensure students experiencing housing instability have what they need to make their dorm rooms and living quarters feel more like home. On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, each student received dorm room necessities, such as a comforter, pillows, bed sheets, towels, shower basics, storage drawers, a standing lamp and other useful items, in addition to a new laptop computer and printer, a gift card and more. The Senior Send-Off would not be made possible without the support of Destination Dorm, Children’s Services Council, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation, Soles4Souls 4EveryKid initiative, UNCS (United National Consumer Suppliers), Immanuel Temple Church (a ministry of the African Methodist Episcopal Church), the BCPS Equity, Diversity & School Climate Department, BCPS Benefits Department, Handy, Grant Cardone Foundation, Broward Principals’ and Assistant Principals’ Association, Rotary Club of Weston, Broward College, and many other program contributors.

HEART provides continuous support to thousands of BCPS students experiencing homelessness, with the goal of removing the barriers that prevent them from enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school.
