Teacher Spotlight-Randall Deich
Dear Community Partner,
As the end of the 2018-2019 school year approaches, I wanted to highlight a few of our staff members and their efforts this year. This month we are focusing on Mr. Randall Deich. Mr. Deich has implemented a program that engages the school community and advanced Computer Science education for high-need secondary students. Through after-school sessions with focused mentoring initiatives, students develop Computer Science workforce skills that lead to experiences they would have never had without their participation. To guide their learning, students are presented with an industry-specific, purpose-driven problem that addresses pain points from a community member. Students are mentored from Industry professionals weekly through Saturday workshops, video conferencing, and email correspondence to teach and develop their skills. These sessions are designed to equip students with the support necessary to develop and deploy Computer Science solutions that meet community demands. The Computer Science after-school program at Lauderhill 6-12 delivers Industry-driven outcomes- providing a student experience that aligns with the demands of workforce employment needs. As a result, Students have been recognized nationally, earned employment opportunities, and paid internships. Students are engaged, motivated, and now interested in pursuing STEM careers.
Program outreach was provided by presenting at the following 2018-19 conferences:
- Annual Conference for Middle Level Education (Orlando)
- EdTech Teacher Summit (Boston)
- Future of Education Conference (Orlando)
- Computer Using Educators of Nevada Conference (Vegas)
- International Society for Technology in Education (Philadelphia)
- Serious Play Conference (Orlando)
We are very proud of Mr. Deich and his dedication to his students. If you would like to see Mr. Deich’s programs “in action” sometime, please contact me at 754-322-3615.
