BCPS Begins Using Walk-Through Metal Detectors at Two Summer School Sites

Broward County School Board Members; Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Superintendent; Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness Staff; District and School Administration

WHAT:
At the start of summer school, BCPS begins using walk-through metal detectors as an added layer of protection for students and families. The two schools participating in the summer session rollout are Charles W. Flanagan High School and J.P. Taravella High School.

A media availability will take place at Charles W. Flanagan High School on the first day of summer classes.

WHY:
As part of the District’s ongoing effort to enhance safety and security measures in schools, the Broward County School Board approved the use of walk-through metal detectors on high school campuses. Following the launch of the initiative at the two high school summer sites, the rollout of walk-through metal detectors at District high schools will continue at the start of the 2024/25 school year.
