BCPS Partners with Broward MPO for International Walk to School Day
October 9, 2018
Students from 24 schools across Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), in partnership with the Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), will walk to school on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, along with students, parents, volunteers, school administrators, elected officials and community leaders, as part of International Walk to School Day.
International Walk to School Day aims to create awareness around safer routes for walking and bicycling, and emphasizes the importance of physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
International Walk to School Day is expected to include more than 5,000 events across all 50 states. Walkers from the U.S. will join children and adults in 40 countries around the world.
Walking or bicycling to school gives children time for physical activity and a sense of responsibility and independence. It also creates an opportunity to be outdoors and provides time to connect with parents, friends and neighbors.
Media are invited to cover participating schools, including the following International Walk to School Day event:
Community members will meet at the Cooper City – City Hall, 9000 SW 50th Place, Cooper City, FL 33328, at 7:15 a.m., and walk to Cooper City Elementary School, 5080 SW 92nd Avenue, Cooper City, FL 33328.
