BCPS Presents 3rd Annual Career and Technical Education Teacher of the Year Awards
And the Finalists are…

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is proud to announce the finalists for the 3rd Annual Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher of the Year Awards, celebrating exceptional contributions to CTE. The event, honoring more than 50 outstanding nominees across middle, high and technical schools, and six extraordinary finalists, will take place on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 7 p.m., at the DoubleTree Hotel Sunrise – Sawgrass Mills.

This year's awards ceremony recognizes both experienced educators and emerging leaders in CTE. Honorees include a remarkable Rookie Teacher of the Year and the prestigious Middle/High School Teacher of the Year.

"CTE teachers play a vital role in developing our future workforce," said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. "Their commitment to building skills and nurturing talent directly impacts student success and the economic well-being of our community. Recognizing and celebrating their accomplishments inspires educators and future professionals alike."
Congratulations to the exceptional educators named as finalists for the CTE Teacher of the Year and Rookie Teacher of the Year. 

CTE Teacher of the Year Finalists

Regina Ferriera, Cooper City High School 
Regina Ferriera, a DECA teacher and career development leader at Cooper City High School with 17 years of experience in BCPS, has made an incredible impact on her students. "Ms. Ferriera's influence extends far beyond the classroom," said student DECA President Lilly Hirsch. "Her dedication to students, even after graduation, is remarkable. She fosters a supportive community that keeps alumni connected, fueling the growth of our DECA chapter. Her passion is contagious, inspiring students in everything they do."
"Eight years into teaching CTE, I know I’m where I belong,” Ferriera said. “Giving students the life skills they need to succeed is priceless. It's about more than technology; it's about networking, critical thinking, leadership and real-world application."

Janira Gallego-Arias, Glades Middle School
Janira Gallego-Arias, a STEM lead teacher at Glades Middle School with 19 years of experience, is an outstanding educator. "Janira's dedication goes beyond the classroom. Her exceptional teaching skills, commitment to student success and passion for learning are evident," said Assistant Principal Stephanie-Mentore Blanc. "A compassionate mentor, she fosters a nurturing environment and engages and inspires students through diverse teaching methods. 
"I'm incredibly proud to be part of CTE,” Gallego-Arias said. “Shaping future leaders is humbling and inspiring. We must continue to promote and expand CTE programs. By offering new certifications and courses, we prepare our students to compete and thrive globally."

Rose Michel, Sandra Marie Curtis High School (Charter) 
Rose Michel is a nursing assistant teacher at Sandra Marie Curtis High School (Charter) for the last two years, whose dedication and commitment to her students have made a significant impact on the nursing program. “Rose’s passion for teaching shines through in her approach with every student, making her not only a skilled instructor but also a compassionate mentor,” said Assistant Principal Shanteala Mash. “She has earned the respect and admiration of both peers and students through her consistent engagement and genuine care for their success and well-being."
“What I enjoy most about teaching CTE is empowering students to connect real-world scenarios with practical applications, strengthening their understanding of evidence-based practices," Michel said. "It allows for creativity in the classroom through virtual simulations, demonstrations and hands-on activities, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. As my students become active in the community, others witness their positive impact and are inspired to seek similar opportunities for personal and professional growth."

Seema Naik, Coral Springs Middle School
Seema Naik, a biology, coding and robotics teacher at Coral Springs Middle School for the last two years, is a dynamic veteran educator with 20 years of experience in BCPS. "Ms. Naik has been an integral part of Coral Springs Middle. Her influence goes beyond academics,” said Principal Jill Slesinski. “Her passion, dedication and innovative teaching methods have significantly enriched our school's academic and extracurricular programs." 
“STEM and computer science are crucial for students' success in the 21st century, providing a foundation for career paths and developing critical thinking skills,” Naik said. “As an engineer turned educator, I see great value in CTE as it bridges academic learning and real-world application. CTE empowers students for the future.

Jacqueline Peeters,
 Miramar High School
Jacqueline Peeters is a marketing teacher at Miramar High School with 30 years of experience in BCPS.  Peeters has been a CTE teacher since 2009, ensuring her students are well-prepared for the demands of the business world. “Jacqueline is passionate about preparing students for success,” said Assistant Principal Ryan March. "She consistently demonstrates her ability to engage and inspire students, using innovative teaching methods and real-world applications to make her classes both informative and exciting." 
"Witnessing students' 'ah-ha' moments when classroom lessons connect to real life is why I teach CTE," Peeters said. "Through hands-on, real-world experiences, I prepare them for industry careers in marketing, management, hospitality, entrepreneurship and more. I'm proud to be a CTE teacher and advocate." 

Sabrina Tobias, Lauderhill 6-12
Sabrina Tobias, a television production and media studies teacher at Lauderhill 6-12 with 25 years of experience in BCPS, is an exemplary leader and team player. “Sabrina's hard work, integrity and commitment to excellence make her an exceptional CTE teacher, said business education teacher Tanisha Richardson. Beyond our professional relationship, I value her honesty, support, and unwavering belief in the potential of others.”
"Watching my students connect classroom learning to practical applications is incredibly rewarding,” Tobias said. “It’s exciting to see them gain confidence as they produce meaningful projects like yearbooks and magazines, podcasts and multimedia presentations. CTE is about shaping futures, and I'm proud to be a part of that journey."
