Pine Ridge Education Center to Receive $50,000 Award from Jack Brewer Foundation’s American Heroes Initiative to launch its Afterschool/Summer Program
January 28, 2020
Broward County Public Schools Pine Ridge Education Center will launch its Afterschool/Summer Program, thanks to a $50,000 award from the Jack Brewer Foundation’s American Heroes Initiative. Jack Brewer, founder of the Foundation, will make the official announcement and present the award at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020, at Pine Ridge Education Center, 1251 SW 42nd Avenue, Fort Lauderdale. (Media are invited to cover this event.)
Brewer, an advocate for at-risk students and partner with Pine Ridge Education Center for more than four years, recognized the need for an afterschool program that provides academic and social support. With funding from the Foundation, the new program will offer access to afterschool and summer activities, as well as support academic enrichment, social and emotional instruction, sports activities and learning experiences outside the classroom.
The award presentation is part of a Super Bowl experience provided by Brewer, a former NFL player, which also includes guest appearances by several former NFL stars, Ahmad Bradshaw, Nate Burleson, Jonathan Casillas, Tommie Harris, Clinton Portis and others. They will interact with students and participate in a fatherhood panel discussion on the importance of fathers and their impact on at-risk students.
“We are grateful for the support of the Jack Brewer Foundation. We are especially thankful to Mr. Brewer who has worked passionately to ensure our youth have access to nurturing and supportive after school environments,” said Pine Ridge Education Center Principal Dr. Henry L. Brown. “Our students are eager to engage and participate in positive extracurricular activities after school. This will have a phenomenal impact on our students and families.”
“As a father, coach and former professional athlete, I believe that the impact of afterschool programs is undeniable for students,” said Brewer, who recognized the need for an afterschool program at Pine Ridge Education Center – an alternative center providing behavioral, mental and academic support to at-risk students – to provide additional academic and social support.
The afterschool program will also provide meals for attending students and establish an afterschool parenting program, offering parental guidance and strategies to help parents with their child’s social and emotional challenges.
