BCPS Collaborates with Microsoft on Historic Districtwide Launch of
Artificial Intelligence
World-class Initiative is Set to Transform K-12 Education
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) is redefining the future of K-12 education by collaborating with Microsoft in a landmark initiative to bring the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to every corner of the District. BCPS is among the early adopters of Microsoft 365 Copilot for Districtwide use in K–12 education, aiming to enhance AI-driven innovation in teaching, learning and operations. This is the largest K–12 adoption of Microsoft Copilot in the world.
“This is an innovative model of 21st-century public-private collaboration,” said Broward County School Board Chair Debra Hixon. “We’re not just adopting new tools – we’re building a future where AI helps every student thrive and every educator succeed.”
“This is more than a technology deployment – it is reimagining what is possible in public education,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn. “In strategic collaboration with Microsoft, we are empowering educators, inspiring students through innovative AI applications and building a sustainable model that can be replicated across the country and around the world.”
Under this visionary collaboration, faculty and staff members across BCPS will be equipped with Microsoft 365 Copilot, unlocking unprecedented productivity, creativity and efficiency.
The initiative is part of a broader strategic vision for a Districtwide transformation that includes:
- Productivity gains for educators and administrators through AI-powered tools.
- Modernization of facilities and operations by leveraging AI to identify efficiency and cost-saving opportunities.
- Creation of classroom efficiencies by assisting educators with automated lesson plans, rubrics and instructional content, freeing up more time for student engagement.
- Personalized student learning using Agentic AI solutions. AI is used to support individualized learning and engagement, with real-time feedback including translation and language support.
- Automated reporting and data analysis, as well as task automation, to help administrators quickly analyze attendance, assessment and demographic data to identify trends and resource needs.
“Broward County Public Schools is taking a thoughtful, strategic approach to integrating AI into education,” said Matt Jubelirer, GM, EDU Worldwide Marketing at Microsoft. “We are working together to bring BCPS’ vision to life – with M365 Copilot we are equipping educators with tools to innovate, engaging students in new ways, and driving meaningful outcomes across the district.”
Additionally, Microsoft is making direct investments and mobilizing its partner ecosystem to accelerate the initiative’s success by delivering professional development to BCPS, maximizing the use and proficiency in the AI applications for teachers, administrators and staff.
