6th Grade Course Cards
6th Grade Course Cards will be available through 5th grade teachers on Wednesday, April 22ndand must be completed by Friday, May 1st

In-Coming 6th Grade FAQ

1.       How are students placed in Regular or Advanced classes?

Students are placed based on their 4th grade FSA scores. Sixth grade students will take Language Arts, Math, Science, and World History. Students scoring a Level 3, 4 or 5, with a scale score of 318-376, on the 2019 Florida Standards Assessment, will be placed in Advanced classes. Students scoring a Level 1, 2 or 3, with a scale score of 251-317, on the 2019 Florida Standards Assessment will be placed in Average classes.  Gifted students will be placed with gifted teachers whether they are placed in Average or Advanced.

 

2.       What happens if a student does not have 2019 FSA scores?

If a student does not have an FSA Score, the student will be placed according to teacher recommendation.  Teachers can email andrea.keery@browardschools.com to determine placement. 

 

3.       How are students placed in GEM and GEARS?

We are waiting on clarification from the District to determine how placement will occur.

 

4.       How will parents know if students qualified for GEM and GEARS?

Parents will be notified by Westglades Middle School that their child has qualified for GEM and GEARS by the end of July.

 

5.       When is the 6th Grade Course Card Form due?

Parents should complete the 6th Grade Course Card Form by Friday, May 1st. Email andrea.keery@browardschools.com for questions regarding 6th grade course cards. 

 

7th & 8th Grade Course Cards
7th & 8th Course Cards will be available through Science teachers on Monday, April 27th and must be completed by Wednesday, May 6th.


In-Coming 7th & 8th Grade FAQ

1. How are students placed in Regular, Advanced, or High Achievers classes?

Students will be in classes for the 2020-2021 school year based on the classes they were in during the 2019-2020 school year.  This includes Regular, Advanced, and Gifted/High Achievers (GEM/GEARS & Algebra 1/Environmental Science).  

If your child was in Average classes during the 2019-2020 school year, they will be placed into Average classes for the 2020-2021 school year.  

If your child was in Advanced classes during the 2019-2020 school year, they will be placed into Advanced classes for the 2020-2021 school year.  

If your child was in High Achievers classes (GEM/GEARS & Algebra 1/Environmental Science) during the 2019-2020 school year, your child will be placed in High Achievers classes for the 2020-2021 school year.
