Mandatory Moment of Silence

William Dandy Middle School

August 18, 2021

Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

Recent legislation requires that all schools observe a moment of silence at the beginning of the school day. As a class, we will participate in the moment of silence during first period. The moment of silence will last one minute during which time students may not interfere with other students’ participation. Teachers may not make suggestions as to the nature of any reflection that a student may engage in during the moment of silence. However, parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss the moment of silence with their child and to make suggestions as to the best use of this time.

The legislation states “in today’s hectic society too few persons are able to experience a moment of quiet reflection before plunging headlong into the activities of daily life. The Legislature finds that our youth will be well served if students are afforded a moment of silence at the beginning of each school day.”

Please do not hesitate to contact me at (754) 322-3200, if you have any questions about the moment of silence.

Sincerely,

Felice Winston-Davis, Principal
