Fall 2020 Dual Enrollment Update

Students,

This year, Broward College’s Dual Enrollment process will be completed online by following the specific steps listed in this email. Please keep in mind that all Fall DE Recommendation Forms must be submitted to your School Counselor by certain dates.

ELIGIBILITY

In order to be eligible for Dual Enrollment, the following criteria must be met:

-Student must be a current 9th, 10th, or 11th grader

-Student must have an unweighted GPA of a 3.0 or higher

-Student must meet the below test scores for English, Reading, and Math with any combination of the below tests (The student must qualify in all three areas.)

SUBMISSION STEPS

To submit the Fall DE Recommendation Form, please follow the below steps:

  1. Click Here to download the Dual Enrollment form to your computer.
  2. Open the form from your desktop using Adobe Reader. (See last page for instructions)
  3. Complete the Student Identification Information on the form as instructed by your counselor.
  4. To save the form, use "Save As" an Adobe PDF. The file name must be, Last name, First Name (for example: Smith,John.pdf). This is a key step because it keeps the form writable so that your counselor can complete the bottom portion of the form. Also, NEW DE students must submit ACT/SAT scores directly from your College board account, if you have them.
  5. Send completed form/test scores as an Adobe PDF attachment to your School Counselor.

Students can still consult with BC Dual Enrollment Advisor Anthony Stephen, regarding course selections, by making an appointment through their Broward College account

DEADLINES are in three phases:

We are going to roll out the process in three Phases.

  • Phase I – Continuing DE students (who already have test scores and previously took a BC DE course) Forms Due APRIL 27, 2020

 

  • Phase II – New DE students (with test scores* already available but no previous DE courses taken, you must include a copy of your SAT/ACT scores in a PDF if using them for eligibility) Forms Due May 18, 2020

 

  • Phase III –NEW DE students who have an unweighted 3.0 GPA but no Test Scores. Forms Due-May 22, 2020

    -MUST apply for a BC Student ID Number

    -Then, email your School Counselor for a Remote PERT testing form

    -Submit your qualifying PERT scores to your School Counselor

    -Follow the Submission Steps above for submitting your paperwork.

 

FALL REGISTRATION

-Begins June 12, 2020 on the Broward College website.

Grades 9-10: May take one* DE course per semester at BC or UF for a maximum total of two courses during the school year and one summer course. The DE class may be taken on the college campus, on the high school campus, or online.

Grade 11: May take two* total DE courses per semester at BC, UF, or any combination of those schools for a maximum total of four courses during the school year and one summer course. Both DE courses may be taken on the high school campus or if the student takes take one DE course on the college campus or online then the second DE course must be taken on the high school campus.

Grade 12: May take three* total DE courses per semester at BC, UF, or any combination of those schools for a maximum total of six courses during the school year. All DE courses may be taken on the high school campus; however, students may take a maximum of two DE courses on the college campus or online and the remaining DE course(s) must be taken on the high school campus.

*Courses with a required lab are considered one course, even though the lab is a separate course for registration purposes.

-Early Admissions students must take 12 credits each term during their senior year

-Your total number of Dual Enrollment classes plus your Everglades High School classes must equal 8 classes. (Example: 2 DE courses plus 5 EHS courses and 1 EHS study hall = 8 total courses.)

-Broward College classes MUST NOT conflict with your EHS class schedule (NO morning classes or classes that begin/end when you are to be in class at Everglades)

-To remain eligible in the Dual Enrollment program, you must not earn a “D” or “F” in any Dual Enrollment course. In addition, your unweighted GPA must not ever fall below 3.0.

-Once you register for your courses on June 12th, you MUST submit a copy of your Broward College schedule to Mrs. Finn.  If necessary, Mrs. Finn will adjust your EHS schedule to comply with DE rules and to ensure you are not taking duplicate courses.

**Students will need to download Adobe Reader (if they do not have it already) in order to open the document, save the document and send back to the high school counselor so it remains writable. Students can download this for free online.
