BCPS Superintendent Welcomes Students Back to Class on the First Day of School, Tuesday, August 16, 2022
Summer vacation is officially over for more than 250,000 students in Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), as they head back to class on Tuesday, August 16, 2022.
To launch the new school year, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Vickie L. Cartwright will visit several schools across the District to welcome students, teachers and staff to an exciting 2022/23 school year. Superintendent Cartwright will begin her day at 5:45 a.m. at the North Area Bus Terminal to welcome school bus operators as they prepare to meet more than 56,000 student riders.
Following early practice runs of nearly 800 routes throughout Broward County, school bus operators are confident and ready for a smooth start on the first day of school. The District’s massive transportation operation, which includes a fleet of 1,200 school buses, makes it one of the largest school districts operated fleets in the country. All buses are equipped with GPS technology to track school bus locations and report emergencies. Through ongoing recruitment efforts, the District has qualified drivers covering all school bus routes.
“I am excited to welcome our students and families to the new school year,” said Superintendent Cartwright. “Across our District, there are incredible learning opportunities ahead, and our schools, teachers and staff are ready to provide high-quality programs and educational experiences for our students.”
