Damion Thomas Jr. is the 2017 Gatorade Florida Boys Track and Field Player of the Year.

The state’s returning Gatorade Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound senior clocked a time of 13.43 seconds to break the tape in the 110-meter hurdles at April’s Texas Relays, which ranked as the nation’s No. 4 time among prep competitors this season at the time of his selection. Thomas won the 110 hurdles at the Class 3A state meet with a time of 13.94. A three-time 110 hurdles title-winner at the Golden South Classic, he was also the 2016 Jamaican Junior National Champion in the event. Thomas holds the 14- and 15-year-old age group national record in the 110.


Damion was also the player of the year for 2016.
