February 19, 2019
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will hold a town hall meeting on school safety on Monday, February 25, 2019. The meeting will take place at J.P. Taravella High School, located at 10600 Riverside Drive, Coral Springs, 33071, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Parents and the community are invited to attend the meeting, which is open to the public.
BCPS Superintendent Robert W. Runcie, District leadership and security experts from Safe Havens, International, Inc. (Safe Havens) will provide an overview of school safety measures. There will be an opportunity for parents and community members to ask questions and provide feedback. The town hall meeting discussion will open with a short presentation by Safe Havens.
Safe Havens provides independent security and risk assessment consultant services for BCPS. Their first phase, which included an assessment at each school to identify the physical security measures and building systems, was completed during the summer. The second phase identified and evaluated potential hazards and risks, and opportunities to reduce vulnerabilities. This phase included observing traffic safety in the morning and afternoon, assessments of buildings and grounds, focus groups, surveys and simulations to evaluate the level of emergency preparedness. The second phase was completed in December.
MEDIA ARE INVITED TO COVER THE TOWN HALL MEETING.
