Music & Dance
College Academy at Broward College
When his parents couldn’t afford dance lessons, Chazriq taught himself to dance by watching videos. Now he’s teaching others. Chazriq is the captain of the Anointed Harmony dance team at Pentecostal Tabernacle, but he’s not only dancing at church. He goes out to the community to teach kids between the ages of 6 and 14 how to dance and express themselves verbally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. Last summer, he taught a group of kids who had never danced before, and also taught them reading and math in the 10-week summer camp called Passport 2 Success. And he has dedicated Fridays after school to teaching drama at the church’s school, working with the students to put on plays. By teaching others, he finds the strength to overcome the discrimination male dancers often face. He has performed in three plays and has won awards for dance and piano.
