BCPS Students Outperform the State in Majority of Tested Areas
On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Florida Department of Education released statewide results of the 2023/24 Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (FAST), which includes progress monitoring assessments administered three times a year for Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA). Results for the state’s End of Course exams for Biology, Civics, U.S. History, Algebra and Geometry were also released, as well as the Statewide Science Assessments for grades 5 and 8.
Overall, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) made significant progress and outpaced the state in all grades for English Language Arts; grades 3-5 and 7 for Mathematics; and End Of Course exams for Algebra, Biology, Civics and U.S. History.

Based on the third and final assessment of FAST in the spring of 2024, BCPS students:
• Scored higher than the state average in 12 out of 14 tested areas and grade levels (see chart below).
• Increased or remained the same in Math and ELA in every grade level, compared to the prior year.

Additional highlights compared to the prior school year’s (2022/23) results:
• Grade 5 Science – students improved 6 percentage points in 2024 to 52% of students scoring on grade level or above.
• Grade 8 Science – students improved 3 percentage points in 2024 to 41% of students scoring on grade level or above.
• End of Course Exams in Spring Biology – students improved 7 percentage points in 2024 to 70% of students scoring on grade level or above.
• End of Course Exams in Spring Algebra – students improved 9 percentage points in 2024 to 58% of students scoring on grade level or above.
• End of Course Exams in Spring Geometry – students improved 9 percentage points in 2024 to 53% of students scoring on grade level or above.
• End of Course Exams in Spring Civics – students improved 4 percentage points in 2024 to 68% of students scoring on grade level or above.
• End of Course Exams in Spring U.S. History – students improved 6 percentage points in 2024 to 69% of students scoring on grade level or above.
