Fourth Annual High School Bilingual Conference Exploresthe Benefits and Challenges of Bilingualism in the Legal Profession
More than 150 Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) bilingual students will take part in the Broward County Hispanic Bar Association’s (BCHBA) High School Bilingual Conference. The event offers students the unique opportunity to learn from law professionals in a bilingual format. The in-person conference takes place on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., at Fort Lauderdale High School (1600 N.E. Fourth Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33305).
The conference breaks down the language barrier to foster a mentorship environment between legal professionals and students in hopes of introducing them to – and sparking their interest in – the legal profession. This year’s conference also explores the importance of mental health in children to raise awareness of this vital component of their development and education.
Through the panel discussion titled, “Our Bilingual Journey: The Challenges and Benefits of Bilingualism in the Legal Profession,” students will learn about the personal journeys of bilingual law students, practicing attorneys and judges. Students will also participate in small breakout sessions, focusing on the positive and negative aspects of bilingualism while studying and practicing law, and an interactive mock trial presentation.
The High School Bilingual Conference is conducted in both English and Spanish and made possible thanks to the support of BCHBA sponsors Dev Partners, Inc. and the Young Lawyers Division of the Florida Bar.
Media is invited to cover this event.
RSVP at bcps.pio@browardschools.com.
