BCPS Celebrates Jumpstart’s Read for the Record!®
International Event Aims to Set a Record for the Number of Students Reading the Same Book on the Same Day

Piper Chen Sings Book CoverBroward County Public Schools (BCPS) is excited to participate in Jumpstart’s annual Read for the Record® event, joining millions of people worldwide in reading the book, “Piper Chen Sings.”

As part of Read for the Record®, guest readers – including Broward County School Board members, BCPS Superintendent, Broward Reads leaders, elected officials representing Broward County and local municipalities, local business leaders, and representatives from various organizations – will visit schools across the District.

To kick off the week, BCPS Superintendent Dr. Howard Hepburn, School Board members and the Florida Panthers will host a pre-Read for the Record event on Monday, October 21, at North Side Elementary School. Media are invited to cover this event and the official Read for the Record events on Thursday, October 24.

Hollywood Police Officers read to students as they kick off Read for the Record activities!

In addition, through a partnership between BCPS, the Children's Services Council of Broward County and multiple Broward County early childhood stakeholders, a free copy of “Piper Chen Sings” will be provided to each pre-K and kindergarten child in Broward County. That’s 40,000 books!
