Sending Love to our Riverglades Family & Updates for Online Learning

Dear Riverglades Families,

I hope you are doing well and remaining safe and healthy while spending quality time with your family. Tonight is very exciting – it’s like the night before the first day of school. Only this time it’s the first day of school for online learning. Either way, each first day of school comes with some excitement, wonder, anticipation, and even a little bit of anxiety. Tomorrow is no different, but we will all face it and get through it together.

I am so proud of the amazing teachers at Riverglades.  Even though it is Spring Break, they have been collaborating and working to prepare for the first day of online instruction for their students.  Riverglades is known for maintaining positive relationships with our families and community. Online learning may take some time to learn for students, staff, and families.  However, I am confident that we will be able to continue having positive relationships if we all work together during online instruction.

Teachers will have lessons for students through Canvas.  Students can access Canvas through Clever.  I am attaching the directions to the email portion of this ParentLink.  All classroom teachers, ESE teachers, and support staff will have office hours Monday through Friday from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm.  Specials teachers will have office hours from 8:00 am – 11:00 am.  It is highly recommended that parents create a daily schedule for their child from 8:00 – 2:00 for consistency.  It can be created around your day and can include lunch, physical activities, academic time, special area lessons, silent reading, I-Ready in reading and math, and other activities from classroom teachers.

The online instruction for ESE and speech students will be different from the instruction they would receive during a normal day at school.  ESE and speech teachers will be supporting students with curriculum from their general education classrooms.  In addition, they will have a Canvas module with resources to assist students.

The online learning platform, Canvas, is new to many if not most of the staff.  I am asking for your patience as we navigate through these unchartered waters.  I am attaching a list of Riverglades' instructional staff members with their contact information and the best way to reach them in the event you have any questions.

Our online learning will begin on Monday, March 30. Please keep in mind we are all learning this together and we will get through it with patience, flexibility, and cooperation. Limited staff will be available by phone for technical support from Monday, March 30 through Wednesday, April 1 to assist with technical concerns. Please call the school at 754-322-8200 during the hours of 8:30 – 12:30 to receive technical assistance.

In addition, the District has a new Mental Health Website which contains many resources for our students, staff, and families. Please take the time to look through the resources available on the District Mental Health Website on our school’s website for easy access for students, staff, and families.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we transition to the online learning experience.

Please stay safe and healthy,

Mrs. Seltzer
