On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will observe A Day of Service and Love in commemoration of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy. Students, staff and volunteers across the District will participate in a variety of volunteer and service projects in remembrance of the 17 students and staff who were tragically killed and those who were injured on February 14, 2018.

In addition, on February 14, at 10:17 a.m., BCPS will observe a moment of reflection in honor of the victims.

“Our hearts and prayers remain with the victims, their families and all those impacted by this tragedy,” said BCPS Superintendent Dr. Peter B. Licata. “We will never forget those who were killed or injured six years ago. Across our District, students and staff are joining together for service projects and activities that focus on positivity, kindness and love in honor of our Fallen Eagles.”

Coral Springs Middle School – Superintendent Visit

• Superintendent Dr. Peter B. Licata will visit with students as they create beaded bracelets, paint rocks and design positivity papers with messages of kindness and love.

 

Eagle Ridge Elementary School

• All students and staff will gather on the P.E. field to create the shape of a heart.
• A service dog will visit classrooms and mindfulness activities will take place in the cafeteria.

 

Atlantic West Elementary School

• Media may attend the moment of reflection at 10:17 a.m.
• Students will create Starbucks coffee sleeves that will be distributed at a local Starbucks, promoting kindness in our community. The school is also hosting a special person day where loved ones can spend time with students in their classrooms.

 

Pembroke Lakes Elementary School

• Fifth grade students will participate in Food For Thought for needy families. Sacks will be filled with food for breakfast, lunch and dinner – to ensure students in need have food over the weekend. Students will also write positive messages to place in the sacks.

 

Fort Lauderdale High School

• Mural painters from Wynwood will paint murals around campus as part of a meaningful beautification project. Students will assist them.

 

Piper High School

• Messages of peace, love and non-violence will be created through chalk art, and students will create a banner promoting the school as a safe space for all students.

 

Indian Ridge Middle School

9:30 – 11 a.m.

• Culinary students will wear aprons and red/pink shirts as they distribute the sweet treats they made to staff throughout the campus.

 

The Quest Center
6401 Charleston St., Hollywood, FL 33024
10:30 a.m. (school day activities) and 12:30 p.m. (dance begins)

• Students will create A Day of Service and Love banner using hand paint and participate in a ladybug release. The school will also host a dance – which aims to spread love and understanding through inclusiveness. Non-disabled students and family members are invited to join Quest students at the event.

 

Apollo Middle School

1 p.m.

• Students will create peace and love posters throughout the day and then carry their designs as they participate in a Peace Walk at the school.
