WHY:
September is Attendance Awareness Month, which highlights the importance of ensuring students are in school on time every school day. Regular school attendance is critical to student academic achievements. The BCPS Second Annual Attendance Symposium focuses on reducing chronic absenteeism, developing community partnerships to support attendance and increasing students’ academic achievements. Attendees will learn:
- Simple strategies for improving student attendance, including strategies for parents, school-based attendance campaigns, goal-setting
- Planning school, innovation zone, or District-level attendance incentives
- Where to find attendance data
- What the attendance data can tell us about academic achievement
- How chronic absenteeism is measured and what we can do about it
