Watch BCPS Students Put their Skills to the Test During VEX Robotics Competitions

 

WHO: Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Students, School and District Staff Members, and Representatives from the Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation

WHAT: Hundreds of students from across BCPS are competing in VEX Robotics Qualifying Tournaments. The first of five BCPS VEX Tournaments takes place this Saturday, December 8, at 10:30 a.m., in conjunction with Miramar Aviation Day at Miramar Regional Park. 

During the VEX Robotics Qualifying Tournaments, BCPS students participate in non-stop, action-packed challenges where they compete with their custom-built VEX robots. Students take part in team field challenges showcasing their skills operating and programming their robots. Top finishers qualify for state-level VEX competitions.

WHY:  Thanks to a grant awarded to BCPS by the REC Foundation and NASA (valued at $227,000), this school year, 114 BCPS schools (69 elementary, 29 middle/combination and 16 high) and over 1,000 students are participating in VEX robotics competitions. The grant provides a robot, funding for team competition registrations and teacher professional development. The grant, which began during the 2017/18 school year, is rolled out over four years. Additional schools are added each year until all BCPS elementary, middle and high schools are participating.
